Y-Pipe questions

(If these have already been discussed I apologize - search isn't working for me.)

Between Stillen and Cattman Y-pipes, which is better for a 2k1? (FWIW I'm looking for performance increase with minimal increase in exhaust noise - except perhaps at WOT).

Has anyone dyno tested these to determine how much you get from Y-pipe alone (no other exhaust mods)?

Are there any alternatives worth considering besides Stillen and Cattman?

If you don't want to increase exhaust noise (except at WOT), are there any other exhaust mods that I should consider? (i.e. Are there any QUIET catbacks that boost performance??) The Maxima is my wife's car and she likes fast - but not loud.

TIA
Ron

bumpity bump bump

I have the similar questions, when searching I get page not found. Interested in what is the best, which is street legal (stillen race pipe is not), what material i.e. aluminum, SS, powdercoated, etc etc.

Well as far which provides the most gains with minimal noise, I am not sure.

Budget and Warpspeed offer y's for 2k1's at a fraction of the cost, quality and fitment of these is always debated.

If you want a quiet catback and little noise, go with a b pipe and keep the stock muffler or go with a DynoMax Super Turbo Muffler. I am still unsure of which muffler would provide the most gains with that set up, I've asked but havent really got an answer. I think that the stock will give u a lil better back pressure (more acceleration but less top end).

Hope that helps maybe somone else can help us out here with info and dynos.

Both Stillen and Cattman are both good y-pipes but, Cattman offers a stainless steel one that is good for people who live in harsh conditions. As far as dyno numbers go, they both have been dynoed at close to 15-20 whp.

How much HP is lost between the flywheel and wheels? I have heard between 10-14% loss to the ground. If this is the case, the 15-20 to the ground equates to about 17-23 (considering 12% loss) at the flywheel. All things stock, 239-245 hp.

FYI

Hmm, I was under the impression that Stillen y-pipe was also stainless steel, no?

Stillen site says it's ceramic coated mild steel.

Get a full cat-back, but keep your stock muffler. That will give you the best performance, without making it loud except at WOT.

I have been told by the guys at Custom Enterprises that the Cattman y-pipe is the better quality pipe. They said the Stillen pipe makes a bussing sound where the Cattman does not. I think Cattman is the way to go.
