Failed smog test, need help!

Today I decided to get my car smog checked. I went to this gas station near my home that was able to do smog check. I talked to mechanic there and he told me it will take 20 min. So I left my car there and came back 20 min later. My expectation was passing the test w/o any problem at all since I only have $15 home made intake. I come back 20 min later and hear "Your car failed the test" from mechanic. I was like WTF?? How da hell did my max fail the test?? and he showed me the summary of the test and it states following:

-Wiring to Sensors..................Modified
-This vehicle failed the MIL/Check Engine Light due to OBD communications failure.
-MAF Sensor
-Intake Air Temp. Disconnected

I knew why it stated "Intake Air Temp. Disconnected". Because instead of making hole on midpipe and fitting air temp sensor on it, I just left it near the air filter. But I don't know what the hell is wrong with my MAF sensor and especially "This vehicle failed the MIL/Check Engine Light due to OBD communications failure" part.

Did anybody got the same "This vehicle failed the MIL/Check Engine Light due to OBD communications failure" and failed because you left the air temp sensor outside of the midpipe??

Thanks,

John

If the air temp sensor is near the intake it still works fine. Only if its not connected it will malfunction. Probably you also didn't plug all the MAF and intake harnesses correctly and that's why you have the codes...

I know I connected everything right, because I don't get any CELs. But to make it sure, I'll check ECU if it pulls any code. maybe the mechanic didn't know what he was doing?? He looked at my HID ballasts + wires and commented it "modified wiring" and it could cause the failure. and he didn't know it was HID.
