Theft Insurance Questions>>>
About a month ago my car got broken into. The ******* stole about$2000 worth of stereo equipment. I also had about 150 CDs that were stolen. I knew right away that they weren't going to cover the CDs but I was 100% sure they were going to cover my stereo equipment. I just got an email from my agent that they won't cover my stolen stereo equipment because it was aftermarket and not stock. What the Fu*k! Why are they telling me this now? They took pics and waited like 2weeks to tell me that they can't give me a penny??? I had receipts for everything, aren't they suppose to cover it if I have the receipts for them?

You may have to list aftermarket items with your insurance agent for them to be covered depending on your state & insurer. Insurance companies list a cars make, model, and trim level and assign a code to it which is used by agents to set premiums. This only applies to stock. No aftermarket stuff is covered no matter how small or large.
Do you have home-owners or renters insurance? If so, some of the stolen items may be covered by that policy. Check with your agent.

u should have done this....
u shoulda told them your stock system was stolen..abotu a month ago i lost about 2000 dollars in stereo equiptment also and i was told by the police that insuarance probably wasn't going to cover it..so i filed a claim for my stock bose headunit...man, it was worth $1713!!! whatever man, i took the money and ran....
But what do you tell the guy when he comes >>>
out to take the pict of the car? Isn't that a Insurance fraud? If I can get away with it, I would do it. Do you think its too late now? Can I still claim that it was my stock Bose unit worth $2000? Thanks. Man, this sucks.

BTW, what state do you live in? I'm just wondering as I am not sure if my stereo is covered either. I am in CA, and I think we are pretty well protected under the law by than, but for the $3K my stereo is worth, it would suck it i was stolen, let alone me having to pay for it all over again.
Ask them to mail you a copy of that emai and then
have them show you were in the policy it states that they don't cover your aftermarket stereo equipement.. I immediately faxed my stereo equipement receipts and rim receipt to my insurance company and sure enough 4 months later my car was stolen.

I lost about 7K few years back when my car was stolen->
I didn't have full coverage. All I have was liability. They didn't pay me a dime. That's why now I don't do car audio. Between my brother and I. We had total of 6 break ins. Yes, we both have alarms. Thieves don't give a rat *** ****. It's a slap on the wrist when they get caught. When they get caught, they don't have to give your things back. The court can't make them so there is no recourse for you. You will have to bring on a civil suit. That will cost you more than $3000. Punishment just doesn't fit the crime. It's just matter of time until someone breaks in or steal the whole car. Only way to keep your car audio is a garage or have a nice insurance policy. I wish I can shoot to kill in my state, but the way the country is going with this gun control. I'll be lucky just to have a gun in the house. Let alone use it to protect anything.

Normally insurance companies will pay for it but it has to be insured. It will cost you more money yearly or monthly. You need to have pictures and receipts. Then notify your insurance co that you want to add addition things to your coverage. Balh blah blah. You can do the same for rims too. I'm not how the whole process is but I had it done. I'm covered for everything in those pictures taken. Take to your insurance co about it.
