Noises...need help

Hello, I noticed that my 98 Max makes a noise while making left turns. I can only hear it when making a turn at about 30mph or more. Its coming from the rear, might be one of the wheels because it sounds like its rubbing against something. Its a deep noise and its not constant during the during the turn. Anyone have any ideas...Im a noob and I dont know much about cars. Thanks.

Could be the CV joints or the front strut bearings http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=254238

I read that the CV Joints make a clicking sound so it I dont it can be that. I had to go a long drive today and it seems like I can hear the noise more often when driving a longer period of time. I was driving straight at 60-70mph and it started making the noises. Sounds like it is coming from the left rear wheel area. I usually hear when making left turns at 20-25mph+. I made a short video of the noise. You can see anything because it camera is sitting between the rear seat headrest and the speaker on the left side. I made a left turn from a complet stop, you can hear the noise after the churp, its a few deep buzzing noises. Does anyone have any idea what it can be? I dont really want to take it anywhere to get it fixed because all the places around here like to rape me for money. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

from that video i cant tell if its your exhaust or something else making the noise.. my best guess would be either the wheel bearing, or a sticking rear caliper thats making the noise.

I have the same problem, but from the video it sounds like your noise is slower. In my Max you can hear it just about anytime, with different frequency...the faster i am going, the faster the noise is repeating. But it definitely sounds like something is rubbing against something else, at first i thought it was coming from the front. i thought maybe it was a bearing or more than one, but after having the car parked overnight and starting up the next day that first couple of seconds when you start moving i can hear something sticking in the rear. So now i am leaning towards the sticky caliper idea and planning on checking it out this weekend. I already looked at the front pads and calipers as well as the joints. looked ok to me. could also be the parking brake pads.

I'm going to go with a sticking rear caliper.

If you want to save yourself some $, but aren't YET car saavy, pick up a Hayne's manual for your car so you can start doing some of this stuff yourself.

One easy thing you can do in the meantime is go for a 20 min drive, prefferably with some highway time at decent speed. Do a bit of braking here & there.

Then, pull over somewhere safe and simply hold your hand up to the outside of the rear wheels at the top. Is there a greater amount of heat pouring out of one wheel vs. the other?

Heat is a byproduct of a sticking caliper. If there's substantially more coming from one wheel, there's your culprit.

When you get the Hayne's manual and a modest tool set, you can pull the rear wheel off on the suspect side & analyze the brake pads for said caliper. If the caliper piston is seizing/binding, the pads will be "glazed" (will have a glazed/shiny appearance to them) You may also notice substantially more pad wear on the malfunctioning side vs. the other side.

Thanks a lot for the replies, Ill try to check the heat coming off the wheels. I already picked up the manual. Im 17 and this is my first car so I dont know much but Im trying to learn the most I can. I had the car for a little over a month, only things I did so far was an oil change and cleaned the TB.

Im having a bigger problem with the noise now. I already tried to feel the heat coming off the calipers and it seemed fine. After I installed my Progress RSB the noise went away. After the having the bar installed for a few weeks, Im getting a noise again and I think its from the same thing. After driving for a while at and going around 60mph I start hearing a deep sound like something is rubbing, and when I make a sharp left turn its the same deep sound bunch much louder. Before I installed the RSB the noise sounded as if it was rubbing...maybe something in relation to the wheel spinning. Before the noise wasnt constant, now its jus a deep constant rubbing sound. Ill try to get a sound clip up soon. Anyone got any ideas what can be causing this?
