124,985 Miles???
Hey guys,
Ive found a 97 5 Speed Max, with cloth interior for $5,950. It has 124,985 miles. Is this to much? How much longer should it run for? If i do buy it what should i look for and should i have then replace anything before i buy it? I know these max's run for a LONG LONG time.
Thanks alot,
SEan

Ask what repairs they got done and stuff...
I disagree. My '99 has about 123k and NO major problems EVER! Just a few spark plug changes, oil changes, and a lot of rock chips from the road. This car is the best car I've ever seen with this mileage. Buy the car. Don't let the miles fool you. I think it'll be just fine.
ok, so if he buys the car and it has problems, you'll be the first one he turns to huh?
every car is different. although we all know maximas go over 250k well taken car off, he should still check it out. a couple thousand more and you can find a better deal. 125,000 is a lot.
so dont tell him to buy it unless he checks it out. Miles may not matter, but the stress put upon the car over the miles may be heavy or light...

i agree with chillenmax, after that much use it all depends on how the car was maintained. get copies of Maintenance Rocords, check what was done, and what wasn't. get someone with knowledge, and you trust, to take a look at it and see what could be a problem. nissan, esp the max, is a good car, and will last if care is taken. 5spd cars also tend to get the most abuse from young drivers. get a carfax, find out who owned the car and where. good luck
Ok so I was in a good mood with that last post. The point is though, my Max has not had any major issues in its entire life. True, 125k miles can mean different things for different cars. But it just amazes me how well this car has stayed in one piece since we got it. I used to drive a '95 Ford Ranger which now has just as many miles, and it runs like crap and has had many issues. I, personally, know jacks*** about mechanical work, so if something were to happen, I wouldn't know how to fix it. I'm just thankful that my car has been operating the same since day 1.
hey, i got a 95 SE with 134K and it's been pretty good so far. just a little of overcooling, prob. the thermostat. I've only had it since august, but like i said so far so good. And I only paid $4k for it, because that is what the value was on the NADA and Kelly websites, in fact it was lower. Just look at everything thoroughly and make sure everything is working the way it should. Do it no matter what the mileage or the price is, you can always get screwed!
i dont know how the service on my motor parts where done. but i brought my car with 181,000 miles and 4000, its a 95 5spd, and almost everything staretd going at 200,000 miles. tranny, clutch(oem), just now water pump which im having trouble with and about to send to shop. its not that bad a deal, its also a 97, stil holds more value then a 95-96 like mine.
but like everyone else said, check for accidents, look at VINS in front and rear ends, end doors for that matter. test drive, feel the power, and also ask about the past maintence etc.
