Vibration when any gear engaged
Vibration when any gear engaged
Vibration comes only when any gear is engaged and car is not moving (if in parked or neutral - disappears). Forgot to mention - I have an automatic trasmission.
Does it have anything to do with:
- brakes?
- transmission mounts?
- engine mounts?
- etc ...
Thanks,
Alex

BTW when you ask a question it's usually a good idea to tell us what yr/model/trans you have
makes it easier to diagnose y'know

Which mounts should I check (and how) ?
Forgot to mention - when standing uphill or downhill - vibration is not that bad.
sounds like bad mounts to me.
have a helper handy.. lift the hood.. start the car and put in gear. stomp the brakes and give it just a little bit of gas (make sure you don't run over your helper!) watch for engine movement.. if there's a lot, then you need new mounts. if the engine doesn't move, then you're probablay safe.

I have cleaned the brakes and some vibration seems to be gone (in other wordsit appears for 1 second when engaging a gear ... it's auto tranny again).

Another thing which I noticed is that shaking decreased after brakes cleaning.
Well ... the question would be - is it tranny or engine mounts?
Thanks.

The way you checked em won't tell you anything conclusive.
You'd have been better off leaving the car in park and revving the engine from under the hood.
Just my op
I have a similar problem, if not the same.
When I come to a stop in drive and I'm holding the brake down the car will vibrate, much more so than normal idling in Park/Neutral. It doesn't happen all the time though, I think on certain inclines it does it more. Because sometimes it is smooth when I'm at a stop light, but other times it vibrates. Also along with the vibrating is a low pitched vibrating sound.
The vibrating doesn't immediately go away when the brake is released but rather when I give it a tiny bit of gas, and then all is smooth again.
What do you think, bad engine mounts? I'm afraid to ask how much replacement costs.

Sounds more like a low speed miss to me

Well, I'll just take it to a shop and let them figure out which mounts must be replaced (I'm taking it for timing belt change anyway).
The other wired thing I noticed - I'm missing one of the the hanger in the middle of the exhaust (might be a cause of vibration also). I'll just weld one later on. But I still don't understand where did I manage to loose it ...

Could you have a look?
BTW, do you carry engine/tranny mounts in stock? - in case if I need them?

Bring with a case of powerade red With the sports bottle tops. (for my wife)
I'll just make sure I have the mounts with me

We're closed weekends
and saturdays are a no go for me
It is official now - the problem cause were ... "soft" front brakes!
When rear brake lines were replaced and system was flashed last March ... mechanic didn't do his job well and left "air" in front lines (I still can't believe in it!!!).
Because front brakes were not holding well ... I had vibration when switched from "park" into any gear.
Another good lession I've learned recently - PLEASE DO WHEEL ALLIGNMENT before blaming control arms !!!
