age old topic of the SE-L

i'v searched the forums for answers, i hope someone can just give us SE-Ls a stright answer.

I know the 99 SE-Ls have different emissions regulations, I herd they have the wiring of 2k maximas. would it be worth while to try to change the SE-L wiring? is there better ways of making more power (y-pipe, cams, MEVI, etc.)?

The answers are out there, but here's some short answers

Some 99's are fed emissions, some are cali. Doesn't matter if they are an SE-L or not.

The wiring is different than earlier 4th gens. Re-wiring wont gain you anything except headaches. It would only be helpful if you wanted to use a JWT ecu. There may be other ways around the problem.

All the mods for the 4th gen still apply to the 99's except the ecu. Step 1 is to find out what emissions you have.

My SE-L is no different from non-SE-L maxes (emissions wise). I hear some SE-L's have pre-cats built into the headers.

Changing cams would net the same results as if you did it on any other VQ30.

VI is somewhat useless for us since we can't get an ECU change to compliment it.

Wiring harness - I've also heard that we share the harness with the 2K maxes. If so, I see a great amount of potential there. (Read VQ30DE-K swap. 222hp > 190)
