Searching for new tires...

Yes, I used the search function, and was still unable to find adequate information. I have come to the end of the road for the Toyo Proxes, and am looking for a new set. I am an average driver, who sometimes looks to use the performance capabilities of the car, but in general, I'd like to find a good handling, 50k+ mile tire, that performs well. I have gone to 3 different tire dealers in town, and one actually was able to order the same original tire Toyo for $147! I feel for this price, a better tire can be had, with the same characteristics the Toyo has. Please recommend a suitable tire "H" rating tire. Sorry if this post lacks other specific details in tire criteria, thanks in advance for the advice. The org hasn't let me down yet.

Then you haven't searched enough, or you didn't search at the right place. This is a good place to start your search:

Since you have an '01 GXE, do you have the 15" stock wheels or the 16" optional ones?

My '01 SE came with stock 16" wheels and when my Proxes wore down, I replaced them with Bridgestone Potenza RE950 all-season high-performance tires. It generally gets good to very good reviews. With a 400AA UTQG rating, they should last long too. On TireRack.com, the 15" size goes for $77 each and the 16" goes for $103 each. Check here for customer reviews:

If you have a Wheel Works (I think they also go by Tires Plus in some places) near you, they can usually match TireRack's prices.

I didn't want to go with those Proxes again as I was unhappy with the way they always squealed when doing quick cornering.

Peace.
