i need to change my front tires for the winter cause they are almost bald. i am probably better of with all-seasons in new england....right? i now have Yokohama H4 (previously had Dunlop W-10)....and was looking for something better in snow as well as in summer. I am down to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (kinda expensive throu), Bridgestone Potenza RE950 (read they no good in snow), and SP Sport A2......any advices?
silly of me to say this, but wouldnt this get better responses in the tire forum? Why would you only replace 2 tires? all weather tires (good for summer and winter) don't really fall under the category of snow as well. those are general winter specified tires, and dont perform that well in summer.
Same situation here, live in upstate NY and drive 70 miles a day.
After noodle-ing over it for all last week I just ordered two of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's (tire rack). Figure that at some point this winter I will be damn glad I did. Next spring I'll go for same in the rear. Spread the $$ pain that way.

One word of advice..change all four to one brand..if not, differences in tread pattern will pull your car to the right or left..as for the tire of choice..I would go for the kumho ecsta 716 hp4...Excellent all year round tire..read the reviews on

People do this all the time...I'm pretty sure the Hankook HR II 405 is a summer-only tire. IIRC, they only make one (two?) performance oriented A/S tires.
What I had been told is that if it snows heavily in your area you're much better off getting a cheap set of 4 winter tires and rims, as even a cheap set of winter tires are much better on snow than any A/S tire. This makes perfect sense to me as specialist tires are, more often than not, better suited to the conditions they were designed for. All seasons are forced to compromise.
