So why no one signing up?

My local shop is asking $520 for the set. $449 shipped seems like an excellent deal. Anyone seen anything better?

I just bought a 2k 5-speed and am looking to do a strut/spring upgrade and the Illuminas seem like a good choice, if you have the patience to wait until they're finally released.

I can't decide which spring to buy with these and I've read all the threads:

- Worried that Eibachs + Illuminas + 235/45/17 Pirellie Nero Zero + 17x8 wheels will be too stiff.

I'm looking for stiffer than stock but not bone-jarring. Any specific recommendations to work with the Illuminas?

I'm borderline in on this GD. Just need a bit more info.

$520 is actualy still a good deal. These retail for about $650. $449 is the very inexpensive. I will not be able to honor this price to long. so place your orders soon.

Do you have these in stock or are you waiting for 5 orders AND the truck to deliver? Also, how will these work with Tein's? I will order them as soon as I hear back from you. Thanks.

Simply stated: Illuminas are adjustable. GR-2's are not adjustable.

Illuminas can be compared more to KYB-AGX's than GR-2's.

This is why the Illuminas are much more expensive ($650) than a set of GR-2's ($290).

I don't own a 5th gen but it seems like this is a great opportunity. It seems like these are the best struts for the money unless people are willing to shell out $1500 for JIC's. There are nothing wrong with AGX's but why not get the latest. I think these with the new Tein springs would be a great setup.

I'm wondering the same thing. I want Eibachs with these but im worried they will be too stiff. I was thinking H&R might be better for ride quality. What other options do we have? Tein, Maxspeed, Progress, what am i forgetting? Search isnt working..can someone remind me what the front and rear drop is on these? Will tokico be making springs for 5th gens like they have for the 4th gens?

Ok guys - i'm # 3.....who's next!!!!!?????

Figure it out -- even if you DON't mount them, you can STILL resell them on the .org and not lose money.

These things are going to be da bomb!

Eat your heart-out Gr-2 owners.....

Ya know what's funny.
You're selling em before you have em and before Tokico even acknowledges their release on their website.
How is that?

We made it clear on the website before it is purchased that it is a pre order. Tokico has not updated their site yet. Call them when you get a chance and they should reassure you.

Do these struts require any modification or are they drop in's like the gr2's and Tok Blues? I know the kyb agx's have to be modified and the Koni Adjustables require a mod of the front strut housing before installation. If these are drop in's, I agree this is a great deal. Unfortunately I put in new GR2's with Maxspeeds 6 months ago(although I love the combo).

Convince me that the illumina's are a better buy than the KYB AGX... Does the illuminas provide ajustability and is there any drop with it ?

Thanks for the infos.

I too was going to buy the AGX's BEFORE I heard that TOKICO was going to release these.....

AGX are excellent struts - however, they are NOT a direct bolt-on replacement for the 5th Gen Maxima. They have to be modified to fit. In addition to extra cost for the package, it is necessary to replace the strut tower mounts and bearings - as well as additional cutting/grinding of the top strut bolts to mate to the stock housing. Not for rookies.

Also, the AGX adjustment is ONLY for Compression, the TOKiCO ajusts BOTH Comp & Rebound in a single step.
No telling what the rates on these things are -- that's all internal valving.
But rest assured - I have done my homework, and these are by far the BEST and ONLY hi-perf. OEM replacement strut for the money on our cars.

Drop is purely a function of the springs you choose - nothing to do with the struts. TEIN S-Techs or Progress seem to be the order of the day.
Teins are lower drop @ 2.2"fr/1.8"rr vs. Progress 1.7"fr/1.5"rr. Firmness is pretty close on each.

If you're serious about a truly functional hi-perf. set-up....go with the illuminas.
If you don't really care about the adjustability but want a firmer/similar to stock ride - go with either the TOK Blues, or the KYB GR-2's.
AGX is not a OEM bolt-on for 5th gens.

good luck.

See above reply - and check the first half of this thread on the price and availability of these.

The KONIs are TOTALLY different -- the Illuminas are an OEM fit and drop-in shock.
The KONI is not.

Thank you for the infos, as far as the drop on struts I agree that most standard struts offer no drop, but that's why I'm interested in KYB-AGX or coilover because they provide extra drop. Basically I wanted to know if the illumina provide any extra drop ? Apparently no but if yes then I might be in for a set of 4. Otherwise Cattman sell the AGX already modified to fit the 5th gen. A pic would defenitley helps but I understand that they are not available for the moment.

Cheers

They're out for 4th gens - but I doubt that'll help.
Not sure where you heard that the struts give extra drop, but I've never known that to be the case - unlike coilovers.

Coilovers are a whole different animal.
If I were to go THAT route, I'd likely drop the ca$h on a TEIN fully-remote adjustable set for about $1500.

Now THAT would be killer!

I'll post pics when i finally get these in hand, and on the car. May be a few weeks to a month at the rate this GD is moving -- but better late than never!

Hey, coilover would be my #1 choice, but like you said it's 1500$, I though for about 550$ the AGX are appealing, anyway let me know when you have the illuminas, I dont need the shock now, I will only swap next spring so still 4 months to go, show us some pics whenever you have the set-up.

Cheers

As far as I know, there were 3 confirmed as of last week.

It seems there are a couple more since Friday - so, it'll be interesting to see what Greg has to say.
