I finally tried to famed drop resistor mod today,

I am not sure if this only applys to 02 and 03's ( I have an 00), but I disconnected the only plug (it was gray) in the far right hand corner of the bay above the strut mount.

I could tell very very little (if any) difference. I'm guessing what i could tell was a mind game of me trying to convince myself i coudl feel it. I definetley did not experience a hard, quick, or crisp shift.

Any help would be much appreciated guys.

 

then you must have disconnected the wrong one. the 'mod' works on any auto Maxima.. if you actually say it works.. it does more damage than good to the clutch bands. I recommend NOT doing it.

 

4th get guys got valve bodies that make a big difference. any for the 5th gens?

 

maximum tuning has 4th and 5th gen VBs

 

well then damn, get one of thise instead. vbs make a big difference, and instead of being bad for the clutch bands, it can enhance the life of the transmission, AND make a big noticable difference.

 

I know the vb mod is the correct way to go with auto. This is just a poor way I wanted to try out and maybe use occasionally! Vb mod is always there givin hard shifts, drop resistor on the other hand, (on/off) makes good sense, since it is free. I know there are vb mods out there but that wasnt really my question.

I just wanted to know why i didnt seem to get any results from the "mod." ?????????

 

i would say since you got no result, you did it wrong. also, the VB isnt uncomfortably hard or anything. the pressure of the shift increases depending on the type of driving you do. If you hit WOT, yea...it shifts hard, but thats the point. driving around town is normal

 

When I did the mod on my 97' there was no doubt in my mind that it worked... I really think you did it wrong.

 

Try unplugging more connectors. Just pick random ones. Maybe you'll unlock the super hyper speed mod.

 

Then you could get around town at LUDICROUS SPEED.

 

find the one for your battery, that should do the trick

just re-read the instructions, try again

From what I understand, you don't feel much difference on the 5th gens.

 

Thanks for the pictures Quicksilver. Found the correct plug, i could tell a difference. Shifts were not really hard but rpm's jumped back much quicker and didnt hang.

Still think that i wantthe vb mod tho. Ah the great mod bug bites again.

 

yea, VB isnt bad for the transmission and yields more result...but obviously costs more (free vs 450 bucks)

 

I think the reason why most 5th generations (2000-2001) don't feel a big difference is because they have faulty TCM's (slow and slushy 1-2shifts) and or dead 2-3 solenoids(Jump or sustained revs during shift). My TCM was fine and my solenoids functioned properly when the transmission was warm. Mine would jerk and thump noticably in part-throttle and would chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift when turning. Full-throttle was much smoother but it just slaps into each gear neatly. I would assume a real VB would be more effective since it increases line pressure over the stock setup

 

yea, thats why i suggested a vb mod for the 5th gen guys. its better for the trans and gives more result anyway.
