Rear doors fail to unlock in cold weather.

Hi,

I have another porblem with my 1996 Max. I live in Canada, and this year I can't put my car in the garage and noticed that during cold nights (-10 deg C) the rear doors fail to unlock. They seem frozen, but the front doors work fine. I have to manually pry the rear door lock toggles open, to open the doors.

Is there something that can be done to prevent this? I'm worried that once the temperature drops lower in January/February I will not be able to open the rear doors at all.

Thanks,

Did you ever find a fix for this. I have a 99 Max SE and I have the exact same problem. It looks like there isn't much information on any fixes to this issues on this forum. Your post was the second post that didn't get any replies.

Lube the locks, will prevent lock from freezing. Dont use wd 40. use white lithium grease (spray can) , thick manual transmission oil (80W90 or the like, few drops only), or maybe dry graphite.

Same deal here. I just end up opening it from the inside. I usually drive alone, so no need to open rear doors (thank goodness).

Sme thing happens with my rear door locks. They make this whirring noise. I can usually get them open by relocking the doors.
