Driving with CAI in Snow

Is driving in the snow with a CAI a bad idea? I have an Injen. BTW Snow is really starting to pile up here in NJ.

Besides sucking in nice cool air (lower winter ambient temp) I dont think driving in the snow with a CAI will be a problem.

please get a bypass valve for 26 bucks, it will save your engine if you happen to suck in any water, imo 26 bucks is worth that kind of security

So then it's alright to drive in the snow with a CAI, snow won't get stuck in the filter or nothing right?

I dunno, but I wouldn't, too much risk. My buddy has the Injen, just take off the lower half of the intake if you can and slap the filter back on then you don't have to worry about sucking anything in.

IMO in order for SNOW to be suck into the CAI you literally have to be plowing thru 2-3 feet of snow. I'm taking actaully driving throw 2-3 feet of snow on a unpaved road, which I know you cant do. I realize in the industry CAI's have been giving a bad rap for sucking in water, which can and will happen. I can tell you from experience I've had my CAI for years and never had a problem even with a lowered car. I've lived in Cali Bay area where during the winter season you might not see the sun for days and I currently live in the South Florida area where in the summer you can set your watch when the rain comes the same time every day. Sometimes in rains so hard in Florida the sewer system can't handle so much water at once, so what happens streets get flooded. I've driven throw water that's been up to the side rocker panels (with Sprint springs) and never had a problem. Of course I'm not giving anyone the green light to do the same thing, use your brain. If you have your inner fender covers that addes more protection to your CAI, and in all cases I've always had mine on. The final decision is yours, enjoy

How about taking out the CAI and putting back the stock air box to avoid ANY problems that you'll have during the winter.. And when Spring comes around, you'll be glad that nothing bad happened to your engine... I think it's worth the wait.

I've driven 2 Saskatoon winters with my CAI - no problems at all, engine is in great condition @ 155,000 km. What you really need to be afraid of is very deep pools of freestanding WATER - that can be dangerous. If you installed the CAI properly, it should be fine. And avoid large pools of water - like you need me to tell you that!

I know this an old post but i figured this would be easier than starting a new thread. im instaling a CAI in my max in a few days and it always rains/snows here in RI. i was planning on insalling a bypass filter, but does any one have a good place to put it were it wont suck up to much ambient hot air from the engine.

and has anyone cut maybe a few inches off the lower end of thier CAI pipe to raise the filter a little higher above the fender well?

also any suggestions would help!!! thanx

I don't see a problem with cutting the CAI pipe, but the reality of it is the stock intake + a fresh new filter on these cars is very good.

Cold air intake isn't going to get you any additional power on these cars over the stock intake with a fresh filter, but it will sound better. A short ram intake will get you the sound without the worries, you just will lose power due to it drawing hot air in.

I've had my Injen on all year round for over 5 years, never had any issues. Snow will not do a damn thing and unless you submerge the whole filter in water, you won't ever get hydrolock.

I got some moisture and the engine went into safe mode. The car lost all acceleration and it cost me a MAF sensor. It was cold that night

This. Seriously, do not fret about anything unless you decide to go explore some creeks in your maxima. I have driven in heavy rain and two winters with my CAI, which is routed into the fender, with no problems. So put it on and relax to the noise it makes

If you're still in doubt, I got an AEM 3'' Air Bypass Valve (Brand New) for $50 shipped to 48 Lower States.

+1 seriously your fine. It's snow, not water (and I've never had issues w water either). Go to 7 eleven get a slurpie and a water. Suck both w a straw and notice how much harder it is to drink the slurpie.

Ur max doesn't have a DYSON attached to it. Your good man.

i have it set up as an SRI right now until i fing time to relocate the bat and route it into the fender, but i left the lower half of the air box on, like the snorkle and bottom of the box to try and get extra ventilation to the filter, has anyone done this? and am i better off just taking it all out??

I have done this. Get a heat shield to create sort of a cold zone using the snorkel
