radiator flush plug question

im needing to simple flush this weekend and ive done it before. i only own the manual for 85-92 and it mentions that on vg there is 2 drain plugs for coolant....is that true because that might be why i am having to do this again after only 3 months? our tap water is pretty bad no longer putting that in i think that is a partial reason why my reserve tank has so much buildup.

Go to wal-mart and get premade 50-50 coolant mixture. cost $3.47

drain radiator....put a garden hose in the radiator filler neck...turn engine on, turn water on, let water run through the system and drain out of the radiator...once clear water starts coming out of the radiator drain...turn off water. let engine run for a minute and shut off.

let radiator drain out all the water. close radiator drain and fill up cooling system with the pre made coolant.

thoroughly wash the thin over flow reservoir tube as well.

if u cant find the pre made coolant....use distilled water to mix with anti freeze.

hope that helps.

hey buddy not to sound like an *** but please read thread before responding my only real question is whether there is more than one plug on a 93 vg? maybe someone else can be helped by the step by step instructions for flushing radiator though

hmm...yeah didnt read all of your thread.

anyhow...about your problem with brown colored buildup in your reservoir...when u open your radiator cap...is there brown coolant in the radiator as well??

cuz i had a similar problem...but only the coolant in the reservoir was brown...coolant in radiator was perfect. the problem was the little overflow tube that goes from the radiator filler neck to the reservoir. it had crud built up in it....i flushed the tube and the reseveroir with clothes detergent and all is good now.

The reason that your coolant sys. is still dirty is because you only drain the coolant from the radiator. There is still coolant in the engine and heater core that has not been flush out.

There is no need to look for the other plug. You can do a good flush just removing the plug from the radiator. From what I know, you have 2 options.

1. drain the coolant from the radiator by removing the peacock. fill it up with water. Chorine in the tap water I don't think will have any affect. I've been doing it a few times already. Chlorine will only affect the tropical fish when changing water not flushing debris. Let the engine runs until the thermostat opens and coolant and water circulate the system. LET THE ENGINE COOL, then drain the coolant again. Repeat this twice for a good flush.

2. Drain the coolant, remove the thermostat, add water, run the engine for 15-20 min. drain the coolant and you might need to do it again.

replace the thermostat fill the system with coolant, turn engine on and don't close the radiator cap. let the system bleed, you might need to add more coolant. Wait till the thermostat opens and coolant circulate before closing the radiator cap.

Your fuel filter is on the fire wall next to the brake booster. Nissan filter is one of the easier filter to replace. You might have to put a lot of force to get the fuel hose off of the filter. Have u done the throttle body cleaning?

When u do the coolant fush using option #1, becareful because the coolant will get hot and you will have a lot of coolant coming out of the radiator before the thermostat open. It is nonmal. Allow the coolant to circulate before u close the rad. cap.

yeah i see the filter but in terms of replacing it do i simply pull it off and put the new one in. Is there any concern with air in the system or any precautions. I cleaned out the throttle body twice in the last few months because i was so annoyed by the rough idle when sitting at a light etc. I learned it ws from a bad injector but also i still have a little heavy idle which i think is from the solenoid in the tranny. i will have to have tha tlooked at . not that important but very unsatisfied with gas mileage after reading threads of people getting 300 -375 per tank and im barely getting 250 thats barely 16 mpg (((

There is only one plug, on your left hand side if you lie down under the car.
