The guy claims the car is in great condition...but I want to know what to look for when I go to look at them.
OH BOY! Read this asap!-->
VTC varible timing cams. These will "tick" when they are bad. Sounds like a sticky lifter.
Exhaust manifold studs. Holds the exhaust manifold on. There are two per cylinder. Broken ones will "Puff" or "squeel"(when real bad) when the car is cold.
Tell the guy not to run the car all day. Test drive when cold and listen for any puffing or squeeling noises. VTC might tick when cold also. Drive the car back and then run though the rest of the body/interior inspections. After about an hour or longer if possile, start the car again and listen for a tick from the VTC assemblies. Mine ticked when warm the most.

Hmm then take a test drive then shut it down->
and try to bs for as long as you can. Then start it up again.
It will be kinda hard to look for broken studs when the car's engine is all hot.
Remember the engine should run real quiet. If not something could be wrong.
BTW I doubt the guy even knows what VTCs are and is probably not aware of exhaust studs breaking.
