Purple Liquid on top of Battery

i was just outside looking at the wiring for my headlights. was trying to get a better understanding on how to hook up the 2002 HIDS. well i noticed on top of my battery there was a little bit of liquid and i noticed a darker color on the terminal posts. when i touched the liquid and looked at my finger, it was PURPLE. what is that? is that my battery leaking somehow or time for a new battery!

Thanks

Your battery is not leaking, its battery terminal sealer. Keeps the battery terminals from corroding. I use, its good stuff.

Why would you be touching it in the first place? If it was battery acid, I don't think you have a finger anymore.

haha, i was skeptical at first whether i should touch it or not. i figured though the acid would not just be sitting on top of the battery if it was some time of leak.

i guess when i got the 30K service done about a week ago, they must have put that on there then.

The electrolyte is not that strong. Once you mix sulfuric acid with water (electrolyte), the acid is diluted enough to the point where it is more stable and not as corrosive. It would be more of an irritant for people with sensitive skin. You would want to wash your hands before touching your eyes or anything though. It would cause great damage to your eyes but not much to your finger.

Yeah why did you touch it. Man, you're lucky it wasn't acid, it would burn your finger.

cause after looking at it i really didnt think it was a leak because it was just on top and on the terminal. it was not on the sides and anywhere else. never seen that before so i didnt know what it was.
