K + N filter, hacked air box

i dont have the money for a CAI right now, but is 45 bux for a replacement K+N filter worth it? will i notice an increase in performance? also, is the hacked air box worth it (by worth it i mean is it worth ruining the cover) and sorry, i know there have been alot of posts about it, but search is down so does anyone have directions for the hacked air box, or links to some directions? and is there a sound increase? i don't want rice, I want a deep growl if any change. thanx all

one of the first things I learned when I first started browsing these forums is that intake is all noise. gains are minimal and often the gains in the low end are balanced out by loss in the top end, or vice versa. you'll net a 3 horsepower gain at best, if you're lucky. some people like to claim otherwise, but it's just their way of justifying the $250 they just spent on a CAI system.

take the top of the box off and throw a K&N cone on there. cheap, easy, growls like a pit bull. you'll be satisfied.

as far as a cheap mod for a real gain...

If you dont want to hack your air box, just pull out the whole thing out and put in a K&N Cone air filter. Sounds good and you'll get that 3-5hp.
