Legal colors?
turn signals: orange only in front, red or orange in rear.
brakes: RED ONLY
headlights: WHITE ONLY There are varous shades due to HID, Halogen, and other headlight types. these are all fine, but they can't be green or purple or any color that changes colors of the objects it shines on.
Clearance lights: front, orange or white. rear, red or orange.
Reverse lights: white only.
Basically, if it's not a color that came on your car stock, it's probably not legal.

I got white turn signals on my broke down maxima and the cops never pulled me over for it. I see soo many people with that up here though so the cops just probably got tired of being a-holes.
I think some states actually vary on their laws, so it may be illegal in some states, but legal in others. Here in Oregon it is illegal to have clear corners or any blue lights of any kind. It's also illegal to have anything covering your license plate (even clear) and it's illegal to take off your front license plate. The ticket for no front plate is pretty big, too and they actually enforce it because they use photo radar and red light cameras.
wireless....clear corners are illegal, yet you got 'em on! any cop trouble?
Here in NC, we don't even GET two plates, so the rear one is all that's needed. I think clears are okay and so is a clear plate cover. I have eurolite hyper white headlights/fogs and they are pure white, so i have never had any problems.

Back in the day, I was stupid and bought those small rear corner bulb from the autoparts store and put them with out thinking that they could be illegal. Since my hyperwhite corner bulb burned out on one side, I just took them all out so no corners for me. Plus, I didn't like how the corners matched with the headlight bulbs

Check the date of his post (someone dug this up from the grave)...Evil Yak wrecked his car a while back and I dont think he comes on this board any more.
He did do a conversion on his lights. They are some kinda civic lights that he modified to fit in.
in wisconsin you have to have an amber reflector so our clear corners are illegal up here but i get no cop trouble also we can have covers over our plates but they cant restrict the view of the plate and we can have white turn signals in the front and white lights. ninety two se im sure your passat has a amber reflecter right below the clear corner a lot of vw have that and so do beamers anyone know about the laws on neons in their area like underbody kits and windshield washer nozzles
yeah they are amber 194 bulbs but the reflector isnt amber so it still might be illegal just check with your local po po station and ask them for all the rules im just to lazy to do that but i know in wis we have to have amber reflectors but i dont care
First of all... Mike, you're right! I was looking at the original date of this post and asked myself what's up with all the dragging out of old posts? Seems to be a trend lately, huh?
As for the neons, aftermarket lights and such, everyone should check their OWN state's legislature and laws because they DO vary. Of course, one state certainly can't enforce their laws upon another car from a visiting state (l've found this little tidbit out firsthand - so I speak from experience). That'd be silly.
I know that here in ND, it's ok to have the neon on your car (for shows and such), but a sure-fire "give-me-a-ticket-officer" alert if you're rolling around with them turned on. Once again, firsthand experience...
Food for thought - do the dishes.

Neons and washer nozels are restricted by color here..blue lights of any kind in any area of the car are illegal in Missouri. all accent lights (neons or LEDs in license plate bolts and washer nozels and such) are legal if they are white, yellow, purple,or orange, and they MUST be solid, not flashing for any reason. Interior accents have to follow the same laws if they are visible outside the car...Red, green, amber, teal, and pink accent lights both interior and exterior, are legal if you pay a $20/year fee for a "neon license" that you stick in the lower left hand corner of your windshield, but again they can not flash. Some counties/cities in Missouri have some of their own regulations, such as not recognizing licenses for red, green, and amber accents..I've got red LED license plate bolts on my rear plate with no accent light license, but they're wired to my brake lights..some cops have told me they thought it was a good idea..i've also got white lights in the other 2 holes on my back plate and wired to my reverse lights..
You can have clear corners and front turn signals, but they MUST have amber bulbs in them..
These are missouri state regulations..I would suggest checking with your local PD and/or your county sheriff to be sure you dont have further regulations..

Here in NY brake lights must be red and reverse white. Front turn signals can only be white or amber, and headlights must be white althought they are making giving HID's a pass unless they are that deep purple color then they might pull you over. NO strobes, ground neons, washer nozzles of any color( which they don't enforce), or neon lights of any kind outside your vehicle as those are only allowed on emergency vehicles. Even thought the cops here are jerks they only bother you at the end of the month when quota comes up, when the lights are excessively noticeable, or in certain areas where racing is common.
I think that clear corners are legal. If you really want them but your not sure, buy them and throw a bulb that has a yellow or orange coating on it that will shine through at night with a more yellow color. I doubt the cops will pull you over for that. Just to let you know, i've had hyper white (blueish) bulbs in my corners and blinkers for about a year and haven't gotten pulled over yet so its not something i'd worry about too much.
People people people clear corners are legal.. however to be properly 'legal' you must have amber bulbs (ie they shine/light up amber.. just like stock). Hyperwhites were played out about 5 yrs ago anyway..
Stick with amber bulbs, they look great at night anyway. Especially with the cornerlight rewire
Edit - Michael.. I forget what lights Evil Yak used.. but from his sig it looks like those might be 89-91 Civic lights
