Taking apart the fog lights....
Taking apart the fog lights....
Just bought H.I.D. bulbs for my foglights, I have the regular nissan foglights on my car. Only problem is I can't seem to figure out how to get them open to replace the bulbs. I did the headlight switch and that took me about 50 seconds.
On the foglights I see 2 screws on either side, but they are right next to the body of the car and theres no way to get a screw driver in there to remove them. If anyone could just inform me on how to get these ***** open to put in the new bulbs I would really appreciate it. My car looks stupid with the really bright headlights and the dull halogen foglights.

Yes it will be much easier off the car. Get under with a long 10mm socket behind the fog assembly you will find two 10mm bolts. Remove the bolts and the fog light assembly should fall down. Then disconnect the connector and remove it from the car completely. Now to separate the black metal backing from the glass you just need to remove the 2 phillips screws and pull it apart from there on you should be able to figure out the rest

I'd be interested to know how well they fit in the fog assembly.
How did the headlight swtich take u 50 seconds? did u get the HID ballasts and all to install as well? i would think that would take a bit longer.
If you look down at the back of the headlight assembly with the hood up, you can see right where the back of the bulbs enter the assembly. All that holds them in is a plastic bracket that you twist on and off. Its simple. All I did was disconnect the wires from the back of the bulb, twist off the old one, twist on the new one with the plastic piece and reconnect the wires. Simple as pie.
Not sure what you mean by HID ballasts thought.
I'll let you all know how well the H3 fog lights fit in tommorow when I get them apart.

hmmmmm...yup...i thought so...u didnt get true HIDs. you probably got the blue tinted bulbs if i am not mistaken? do read the wattage of those bulbs on their box...if they take higher than stock wattage, they might melt your headlight harness. (assuming they DO take higher wattage than stock)
The packaging said H.I.D. on the package. I couldn't tell you for sure if they were b/c it was a christmas gift, but the packaging did say H.I.D. on it. Then again I could have just installed them improperly. Anyhow, gonna put the fogs in later today if its still not 25 degrees out (unheated garage).
Is there a big silver box that gets connected to the bulb. If not its probably a regualr bulb that the maker claims to have H.I.D. color and output which is never true because no regular halogen bulb compares to the real deal.

this page shows what an HID bulb would typically look like.
this other link shows what the complete kit looks like:

Out of all these listed on the website, which would be the best and best for the price? If I use a higher-wattage bulb, don't I have to upgrade the fuses and wiring?

I was thinking of buying some Xenon bulbs because they wer $30/pair versus $40/pair for the Sylvania Silverstars.

yeah you'll surely have to upgrade your wiring harnesses for those bulbs...i think they take like 80/100 watts...which besides being a strain on your alternator, may also be illegal for use on public roads.
i think these are probably what you got.

it says HID on the box but its not really HID. it has the HID "look". but all they really do on these bulbs are bump up the wattage by 5-10 watts and filter out the yellowness of hallogens by tinting the bulb. youll be lucky if you can find an HID kit anywhere for less than 250.
can you just buy the real HID bulb and put them in your car? Nope. real HIDs dont work the same way as regular halogens. they have no filiment, so they "never" burn out. thats what the Ballast and ignitor are for, it ignite the bulb and keep it going.
as for the 80/100 watts, its not. if you look closely at that one, youll see a 45/55 on it. the 45/55 is the actual wattage on the bulb, the 80/100 is what its suppose to look like. i know, its sneaky. anything over 5, maybe 8 watts over stock, i would recomend new fatter wires.
if you ever use true HIDs, its hard to go back to regular hallogens. those who've done the conversion, you know what im talking about!

Alright so I found out that the healight bulbs weren't true HIDs, but the fog lights are. The foglight bulbs fit in nicely. The only problem I had with the installation was getting my fog lights off. Since nobody has ever taken them off since the car was made, the bolts were completely rusted, combine that with 30 degree weather and I wound up snapping 3 of the 4 bolts, and the bolts are stuck in the car still. I have to go get some e-z outs or something. Wound up using two sided foam tape to hold the fog light on that had both bolts snap.
