vg tranny swap

yes... another 5 spd tranny swap post.......

Hey guys, I'm doing a 5spd swap soon and iv been tracking down all the parts I will need.
if anyone has done this to a VG and knows what exactly is needed plz, help me out so I can make sure I'm not missing anything.
plz just list the parts that u know of and maybe some tips, (the VE swap,(maybe even a vgdet) will be coming after I get this tranny, but for the time I'll be installing this tranny on a VG)
- also does anyone have that link to that infamous, 4th gen 5spd swap... I think that site fell off the earth

thanx in advance

like I told you Chris it would be 20x easier if you had both cars side by side when you did it. this way your not missing little nuts and bolts.

N34JZ im wonderin about the other post about ur cousin , Ur agreeing with him saying that this max is puttin out over or should i say ova 280 at the crank, What kinda supercharger is it and why is there no PICS i would be showing that thing off like a mthrfckr even hlh5005 was pushing 300 i think with juice and he blew the **** out of his intake last week.

So your saying that you are doing a 5-spd swap then your gonna put a VE in it? Does the VG tranny even bolt up to a VE or vs. versa?

you say you are wanting to get the vg30et or vg30det? the vg30det would be sweet if it fits. i'm pretty sure it will since the intake manifold is much smaller than the us spec vg30de(tt) but the only hard part will be ecu and wiring harness. i think you have to use the vg30de's wiring harness and ecu and have jwt program the ecu to work on the det. my friend has one and is putting it in his 280Z and i think he has to do exactly that.

i know one VGdet user who didnt use jim wolf to reprogram their ecu instead he baught one of thoes DIY ecu programers and after alot of hardwork and confusing electonics he has it working
-and i bet the engine mounts match up closer to the vg's then the ve's
-damn i just relized i have to start looking for axles too.. but i dont know what ones will match up.. is it just VE axles for VE's and the same with the VG? or can a mix and match?

*O yeah one more thing before i start putting money into this project, im getting alot of parts from diferent 3rd gen's... im not going to have a problem am i??
...i know im going to wind up getting a donor car... (im stupid)

VE uses it's own axles, different than VG.
Why are you planning on messing with your tailights?

Barking up the wrong tree? what is that suppose to mean? There are very intelligent people that are part of this great maxima organization. and I have total trust in them, I did all my own work and replaced countless parts, To accomplish something I must fist know what the ef' I'm doing, so I posted here to get all my facts strait.. besides.. I'm going take my time, ill install everything I can and keep the car still driveable and then when I'm good and rdy ill pop the tranny out.

I know buying a ve 5 spd sounds so easy.. but iv looked around.... a lot! and I cant seem to find one in my price range, I have considered buying damaged ve 5spd but the only ones I have found were need thousands of dollars in body work and parts. I wish I was just lucky enough to find one, but I'm not so doing this project will not only expand my automotive knowledge but also achieve a personal goal of mine.

its not that anyone wants to be discouraging, its just that you will invest more money in parts alone by trying to do the swap over a period of time then you would if you just hold tight and save your greenbacks, (like izzy did) and ****** up a good opportunity. an engine swap isnt merely aking one out and putting another in. the ve and vg are miles appart. wou would have to buy a wrecked ve, pull everysingle wire out and swap it with yours. how much down time do you think that will be? i know you think its cheaper to do it little by little, but its not. i priced out my 5 sp swap at 900, dooing everything myself and having a parts car. thats just things i needed to buy to get it to be functional again, no performance. i dont have the luxury of saying ill swap my mods to another car. you do

ok, so you need different axles. Do you realize that you might need different hubs too? Or do you know that you don't. Does your car have ABS? Hope not...

Do you havea factory service manual? It contains all the info you would need concerning the wiring for the tail lights.

I know all about finding a VE 5 speed. Its not easy. I found a parts car, it cost me $900 + a tow dolly and Gas. About $1100 in the end.

You should be putting a 5 speed trans in your car that came from the right set of years. Your project is a first, so how can you expect anyone to give solid advice? Anything anyone would say here is at best an educated guess.

And I'm not kissing Shavedmax's ***. If you din't notice he HAS done a lot of work, and just might have a clue as to what he is talking about.

mtcookson and shavedmax: You guys have earned a custom car title... Both of you have done sooooo much work to you cars, they are not anywhere near stock.

The GTR moniker is not much more than rice...

Alright, I've done a lot of thinking...and I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. I think saving my money and buying a whole new max sounds like the easiest way. I was looking forward to doing the five speed swap....but I doubt that's gonna happen now.

Shadesmax and mtcookson: Thx for the advice you really enlightened me (seriously).

Todamax: I have a chrome GTR badge on the grille of my car. I also have one on your mom.

so what if you would show it off, mabey hes not an attention ***** like you.
mabey he doesnt post pics because then he gets dones of questions about how and where and how much from people who are too lazy to do the research, not to burst your little bubble but you can do anything if you have the money so stop being a lemming on that whole "since I cant afford to boost my car Ill just discourage anyone who can" bandwagon.

and I seriously dont give a damn what hal does to his motors .

(its funny, the hole point to this was illustrating that is wasn't trivial or really a good idea to put a VE tranny in a VG based car. Chris has managed to bring it down to a high school level, where he beat me with experience.)

How about we go back to your topic. Any new plans? Not going to try the physco tranny swap? You want I should keep my out out for a decent VE 5-spd for ya? The more looking the easier it is to find one...

i wouldn't say swapping the ve tranny is a bad idea. the vg has enough low end torque to spin the tire (notice no s) pretty easily. lol

i myself am planning on swapping the ve lsd tranny into my car.
