Blower stuck on high...

Hey everyone, I'm not really new here but it's been quite a while since I've posted and had to re-register...

Anyway, I've got a '93GXE with the auto climate control and it's stuck on high. Well, actually it'll work on 3 and 4 but not 1 or 2 and it will not shut off. The guy at the local Nissan dealership said it's NOT the resistor assembly but the head unit...which they want $650 for! Any ideas? Should I just replace the resistor and hope for the best or am I screwed? Would you recommend using a used unit?

The amplifier has to be replaced. It is located under the dash on the passenger side. 3 or 4 wires if I remember right. Easy to replace 1 screw holds it in. On auto climate control units its the one that controls the blower speed. If you need a picture let me know.

Here's the link with the TSB Http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb...=1989&tsb=none

This will show what went bad and how to replace it.

Paul,

wouldn't it be nice to include these TSB links in a Maxima FAQs on this list -- should we forward them to the moderators ?

Hmm, ok so you all think it's the resistor that needs replacing. The guy at the dealership said that if it was the resistor the motor would at least shut off. Mine doesn't but will change from 3 - 4 manually. When I shut the control off, it stays on. Still think it's the resistor? I'd much rather spend $30 over $650 anyday! Thanks gang, I appreciate it.

Oh, and a pic would be a big help. Thanks tmuscedere!

I have the same problem with my 94 gxe with automatic climate control. Mine only runs on blower speed 4. It is kind of funny watching it figure out that 1,2,3 aren't working so it then dials up speed 4. Of course the downside is that I have either no flow, or hurricane flow of wind. Anybody know the number and price of the amplifier, if this is the possible problem?

Check out the link that was posted. Look for the 'Blower motor not working' link and scroll down. Yours sounds like the resistor, but I'm still skeptical on mine as the motor will not shut off...
