Y-pipe Debacle

Well, I finally broke down and ordered the serious mod: y-pipe. I called Budget on Monday and they shipped it to me. It arrived today (Friday). Awesome people to work with, not very organized, but extremely nice! Cost about 190 American with shipping.

I was jittery all week waiting for my pipe, this has always been the mod I wanted most. I saw by the tracking number that it arrived today, and I was bouncing around my office at work. I get home, unpack the box, and put my car on the ramps.

I get under the car with my can of wd-40 to grease the nuts. I can't get to my stock pipe. The ramps aren't high enough. It won't work. So, now I have to wait and TRY and find a shoip that will install it or let me use their lift since they can't take off a pre cat.

I wanna cry....

Man, those are some crappy ramps. It's not high enough for you to get under your car? Terrible engineering. Then they're completely useless.

I can get under there, I used them to put my sway bar on. I raised the front of the car and can't get to the back of the y-pipe. It is about halfway back on your car...

I know where the pipe joins the cat. I installed my y pipe using ramps. How big are your ramps? I was able to fit by positioning myself sideways at a right angle to the car's body. It was a little tight, and I couldn't roll over once I was under the car, but it was good enough to get to the bolts.

They're autozone 30 buck ramps. I dunno typical ramp height. It was dark cuz I was leaving to go back to school tonight (i'm back now) but I could see cuz of the garage light. I went in from the front, and I wasn't gonna be able to maneuver any kind of tools...

Why not try buying some higher ramps. Either that or use some higher jack stands (usually like the 3-ton type)... I've installed a Y and a straight-pipe on 2 occasions...once with ramps, once with stands...

I just used the floor jack and stands to get it up in the air. I wanted to use my ramps but it just wont fit. I'd rip the front bumper off!

They're just gonna charge by time. 24.50 an hour. I figure it won't take more than an hour or so.

And i wish I had jackstands - but I'm a broke college kid so I have to make do with the ramps...

Well, I finally got the y-pipe installed. Cost me 54 bucks and the shop was great. took a little over an hour.

This is the greatest mod ever! My car noticeable pushes me back in my seat more now and you can see the speedo climb faster. And the sound with my flowmaster muffler is unreal! I'm giddy like a schoolgirl on Christmas. I must have burned through 4-5 gallons of gas just driving and flooring it after it got put on.

I love my y-pipe!
