so do i have to buy a JWT ECU to run those cams or will the stock puter handle it?

i'd take a guess saying no because the page didn't really mention anything about it... but i'm not positive. more than likely it'd be fine but for best results an ecu would be good.

ECU is not needed...IMHO JWT VG cams are overpriced...Motorsport has comparable spec'd VG cams and are highly reccomended over on z31.com...motorsport 260s or 270s would probably do an na VG nicely

my friend was running aftermarket cams in his 92 VG auto(Nismo Euro cam) made noticable gains on the midrange to topend, but they aren't that aggressive...hung with VEs(those weren' t the only mods though)

technically, i'm running aftermarket cams. my engine came with the euro cams which are supposed to add 10 hp. since my engine has a turbo its hard to tell a difference but one thing i can tell is my low end seems like its just as power as the stock engine even though the compression is 8.3:1 compared to 9:1.

id like to upgrade my cams, might even help my idle somewhat. my friend just replaced the cams in his lancer and they definetly do make a difference. i think he used jwt. but no his lancer is about the same as my max, kinda sad, i need to do something about that

but seriously it would stay with and edge Neil/Maxdout's old VE auto(I/Y/E/Pulleys) back in the day...highway pull was nice. wasn't an amazing gain, but combined with the other mods and some AFC fine tuning it was a decent VG auto

doubt JWT makes any Mitsu cams though

Ya im runnin the MotorSport 270/262 .420" lift MotorSport Cams in mine, not sure of the gains exactly cuz when i put them in i also replaced pistons, rods, injectors, Ported Upper manifold and TB , and UDP but they idle nicely and run freely up to 6500 , I did notice a drop off in gad mileage when i changed everything around

so since i knew very little about cams i went to howstuffworks and read about them. now i have a few questions.

how hard is it to install yourself?

is it more or less bolt on?

do the valves keep their position or do you have to keep them where they are somehow?

most of you who have gotten the cams gone to a "professional" or just did it yourself.

thanks,
ken

the install IS NOT for a first timer...concept is simple, process is tedious

as far as being "bolt-on"...I'll say yes and no. yes in the sense you can use stock valvetrain(on most cams) and no in the sense, its not the average aftenoon intake install.

not sure what you mean about the valves...everything stays as stock(or do you mean during the install??)

basically this falls under "if you have to ask, its beter to have someone else do it for you" you don't wanna **** this up

Ya u deff. dont wanna be doing this with the heads in the car, I cant imagine how it could be done propely (checkin clearences, bearings, torqueing) without the heads coming out , its deff not a first mod project I would say unless u have expierence with rippin heads off a VG done do it get some one who does to help you out, and expect it to take prolly atleast a weekend and mark eveything with one of those paint pens when u take it apart if u dont ull be spending lotza time gettin the timing right if u got the marks it will cut time down greatly.

well thats what i was thinking but everyone has to start somewhere right?. i'll see if my friend's dad can help me. if not i'll have a shop do it (even though this takes ALL the fun out of it). how much should i expect to pay for this install?

also whats the diff between the jwt cams and the motorsports one?

thanks

did you have to upgrade to stiffer valve springs or will stock one work. i'd also imagine new lifters would be a must.

i would hope with all you've done, the car is conciderably more powerfull. is this the case?

also, what is a UPD?

thanks,

jason

udp = underdrive pulley. it replaces the crank pulley and underdrives the alt and such and is also lighter to help the engine rev quicker.

I was going to make some smart-a$$ remark about it not being for a first timer, but it's late and it would require me to put some effort/thought into it .

As for the valve question, your wayyy over thinking what you read, I know what your getting at though.

And with the spare cams, they would make an awesome weapon errrr defense tool thing a ma bob. Esp. VE intake cams with the VTC assemblies still on them. I bet you could take out one of those moderators who you dont want to meet in a dark alley with one of those cams (unless they have a crank shaft).

ok sorry guys... I'll go to sleep now

The springs are still stock and lifters are also stock but they were regrinded to accept the new cam. The only thing that were replaced were the bearings and cam. Yes ECU is runnin a new rom also.
