I posted all the pics on my page. I did a fair amount of research for this project and chose this option as A) cheap, B) effective and C) easy install. I used a cordless drill, socket, box wrench, and flat head screw driver.

K&N filter from Jeg's $39.98
Universal adapter from Lightning $32.37
3" PVC coupling $5.29
Goop $4.89
Bolts/washers/nuts $2.40

I used a 3 1/2" filter which is why I used the PVC and the Goop. Using a 3" filter eliminates this from the project, and would cut the time to an hour. You would just have to drill the holes, and mount it.
The only thing that stinks is you have to drill your own holes in the Lightning adapter, but I knew this ahead of time.

I did not disconnect the battery and reset the computer. I was initially a little worried about loss of low end, but the 50 min drive to work this morning seems to have set everything back to normal. It ROARS from about 1400 to 3200 RPM when you stand on the gas. It is louder than you would think if you've never heard one.

I do have one remaining question:
I didn't remove the duct work from the grille to the old box. I think I am going to. But there is a box under the battery tray that appears to be a run off of some kind from the main duct. Anyone know what this is and if it is safe to remove?

Thanks for reading!

that stock intake tube splits off to a resonator box
under the battery. its main purpose is to reduce
the intake noise. but now you don't have the stock filter
box, it's useless. so you can remove all of those tubings.

Removing boxes

Thanks Albert. I am going to yank that this weekend.

Well, I guess I saved $25 bucks, not that big of a deal, but that's $25 towards a FSTB or a muffler. I also enjoy building the intake and the satisfaction of completing the project. But that's just me.

Thanks.

Glad you were able to custom install the intake. The problem is, that's a very small intake! The stillen and JWT cones are much larger than the standard K&N.

I would have just paid a little extra and gotten a direct bolt on JWT cone.

The cone itself is 3-1/2" id, 3-1/2"- 4-5/8"x7"L I am willing to bet the K&N has more surface area to flow air through.

I'm not saying mine is better than anyone else. I am simply stating what I did, and people can take the info and do what they want with it. I'm happy with how it came out.
