I have a 1990 maxima and had recently had the thermostat changed. The heat in the car now STILL sucks. I can warm it up for half an hour and the MOST I would get semi warm air. Doe's anyone have an idea of what it could be? Also the fans blow out dust particles and chunks of black stuff as well. Any advice would be appreciated. I wouldn't care much usually but I live in Philadelphia and it's getting DAMN cold. I can drive all the way to school and still see my breath.

 

you'll most likely have to flush your heater core to get air and any other junk out of there. that works the best for me.

When I took it to the mechanic I saw him put a hose into a tube and flush everything out. I dunno what he flushed out but he did flush something. Unfourtentley didn't help. How much you thing bleeding out air system and heater core would cost?

i was having the same prob i just recently changed my thermostat. listen to this though if u did have air in the system wouldnt the air be replaced with coolant via the coolant resovoir? after driving the car and it has cooled check the collant in the radiator level it off, and add coolant to resovoir also.

 

my car did the same thing....... right before the heater core took a **** 1 year with no heat and counting...... any one know how hard it is to replace them and how much itll cost???

 

The part itself is around $75. The big issue is labor. It is not an easy job. Most places will quote you $500-700 total, so most of that is going to be labor.

If I remember correctly (tell me if I'm wrong Internetautomart...) the 3rd gen heater core is a dealer-only part. Someone on NWMax is replacing his and no one else had them but the dealer.

I couldn't find ANY aftermarket heater cores for the third gen

 

your core is likely clogged. Try flushing again. Make sure no air is trapped. Other ideas are broken blender doors in the dash, accidenlty having the fresh air switch engaged, clogged coolant lines leading to the heater core. There is also some sort of valve on the firewall that can malfunction, so do a search on how to find and test it.

 

i read a post that stated to raise the front of the car up to 33 inches?? damn high, to get the air from the heater core ? is this the only way to get any air that maybe in the system out? what is the purpose of the bleeder valve then ? I have changed both my radiator, and thermostat. heat is better, but i dunno i think it could be hotter and faster coming in my max. I made a post also that when the heat is on that my right passenger side vent blows cool air, and yes i have checked to make sure the fresh air by-pass is not on. what is the cause here? all the other vents blow heat out when heater is on? why must u raise the car so high? that is my main question?

 

Because you need the raditor cap to be the highest point in the coolant system.
