What did you pay for work or mod installation?

Whats up guys,

I was just wondering, what have you been charged to fix stuff or have mods installed? I know that some people dont have the tools, time, or experience(nerve ) to do some stuff in their garage/driveway (side of the street for some of you ).

I think it would be fun to see how much I could have paid for taking my car places.

Tranny swaps/replacements, Clutch work, suspension work, exhaust work, I think everyone has installed their own intake , timing belt for those VG'ers, VTC work for us VE'ers, even how much detailing normally costs, anything you've ever had to pay for on your car, lol.

What, are you trying to figure out how much to charge when I pay you to work on mine?

(can we say, "rebuild VTCs...")

I paid ~$190 to have my Tokico's, Eibach's, and FSTB installed. I also paid about $575 for the 60,000 mile maintenance. This included the front main oil seal, camshaft oil seals, timing belt, tensioner, water pump, thermostat, all the belts, and the labor to install them. All of this was three years ago when I had money but no tools or experience. Now I try to do everything myself. However, I did take the car to the mechanic in October of 2002 to have my exhaust manifold studs replaced. I got bent over on that one. $950 but it included a new rear exhaust manifold. My car hasn't been to the mechanic since then.

ah yes, i remember a couple more now.

a while back got a catback setup with a magnaflow muffler for about $130

recent full straight exhaust setup from the turbo to the magnaflow $140 (which also included doing intake piping as well)

had to get a flex pipe welded to the straight pipe - $30

other than those i've pretty much done the rest of the work myself that i can think of.
manual tranny fix
vg timing belt 2 or 3 times
2 water pumps
thermostat once
etc.

Was that price with you buying the muffler at a discount? Did you have this made? Seems way cheap to me, good job!

I've installed all my mods. The hardest was the CAI (fitment problems).

Then I paid about 330 for a new clutch and 300 for new linkage in the tranny. I recently paid to get a new cv boot put on:120. So ~ 770 buckeroos.

my 91..(or rather the-rapists) shredded my wallet...

tranny rebuild = $2800
timing belt * 2 = $700
Clutch + Flywheel = $300 (labor only)
Suspension = $0 (done myself)

Countless alignments = $120(lifetime warranty)

A HOST of other miscellaneous EXPENSIVE jobs....=$$$$$

Finding maxima.org, chilton's online and realising how easy most of the work was = priceless rage.

Finally getting a house that actually HAS a garage...can we say "heated garage with lots of diy work coming up"

Yeah... that's about how much I paid to get MY engine installed when I first bought my cash cow...ur, I mean car.
Other than that, I'll get my oil changed every once in a while by Nissan for $20, and $60 to get my injectors diagnosed last spring.

But I've done pretty much everything else on my own, in my driveway, with my own sweat, blood, and tears.

On my current Max, I paid $100 to have this guy put my new clutch pedal bracket in and custom make reinforcements on the firewall, so hopefully it won't break again.

I paid a "shade tree mechanic" $100 labor to do my water pump and I think the parts were around $100.

My most recent work was $20 and a 1/2 rack of Busch for a mechanic to help install my y-pipe because he had a lift. He ended up doing most of the work, even though I just wanted to use his lift.

I still need some stuff done, though. I need the VTCs rebuilt/replaced, a front main seal is leaky and I have some boots that need replaced.

Oh, I also paid a shop like $250 in labor to wire all my stereo stuff. Since my amp is in the trunk, I didn't want to mess with all of the wiring. It would have taken me a whole weekend to take everything out and run wires. They also installed the HU and door speakers.

On my first max, the slave cylinder went out and I took it to Clutch Doctors and it was like $120 with the parts and stuff.

I try to do as much possible myself, but I will ask around and try to find someone to help me, cut me a deal or trade for something -- especially in the winter since my garage isn't heated.

-Clutch $220.00
-Exhaust y-pipe, cat and Greddy $60.00
-Stillen STS and BlehmCo Stage II lower tie bar $50.00

The rest of the stuff that doesn't require a lift I do in my friend backyard such as suspension stuff.
