New pics of car and injen CAI

Well I finally got time to take some pics. Me and a friend installed the intake a few days ago, took about 45 minutes. Anyways car pulls harder mid range and top end. First gear feels like the biggest gain. anways heres the pics.....

I have a question Glude... What the heck is that thing down through the hole? You know, after you remove the stock air box, there is that plastic thing down through the hole... is it part of the stock intake too? Or a resonator box? I have been thinking of removing it, since I have an intake too (not a CAI though)...

wow..thats a lot different than the 02-03 CAI. This one is actually a COLD AIR INTAKE! did you have to cut a hole to make it fit?>

There is a resonator in the fender well and there was no cutting involved.

Wow!!!Look at all that empty space. Wasn't there a black covering there before. BTW, nice car though. And a real cold air intake by injen unlike the 5th gens injen.

I have not driven in the rain with it yet but I dont think I will have any problems. Unless I hit a puddle deeper than about 2 feet. Thanks for the compliments, I am so happy that it was a true CAI and not like the 02 and 03 design.

Thinking of purchasing this intake. How does it sound. Did you have to remove the skid plate or the battery to get the filter into place? And does it have all the proper inlets for the sensors? ( when i put on a frankencar intake, i had to drill into the filter to place the air temp sensor in my 4th gen)

Injen includes a full detailed installion guide for people who are worried about the install. I didnt really need it for much because an intake is such a basic thing to install and anyone who can read can install this. Sound is awsome, much better than stock if u like a deep scream. Again, thanks for the compliments guys.

I believe I paid 229 shipped from SWA. Im not to worried about the rain, I had a CAI on my old prelude for a couple years and I went through some deep puddles without a problem, that car was also lower than the maxima. If you remove your resonator in the fender well and the lil duct from the front it makes the intake louder and possible helps it breath a tad better. I had it like that before I got the CAI, and I was running a K&N panel filter.

Warranty on what? The dealership can give you crap if you have one so they can get out of warranty work but I really think it depends on the dealership.

I did not get the filter shield. I may need it though because the plastic under the very front ripped off one day while I was driving so now open air is exposed to my filter.

heres the dyno that injen provided:

Someone brought to my attention that the AF is very rich mid and top end and an safc2 would benefit my car a lot.I dunno lemme know what you guys think and explain to me there gains because it doesnt make sense to me.

Did they do the test on a 2k4? Those numbers seem low.

Injens site lists the intake for 6sp only. What gives? Is there some AT bracketry in the way that would keep it from fitting properly?

Also, if you compare Gludes (awesome I might add) pics above to the 03 V6 Alty kit on Injens site, they look identical, yet for the Alty, it works with the A/T.

Werd.

I asked a dealership service advisor about their view on aftermarket parts, and CAI specifically. The guy claimed that he had never heard of a CAI, and that nobody had ever brought in a car to this dealership with any aftermarket parts on it so he wasn't sure how to handle it. He fell back on some tired old line about how Nissan does not approve of aftermarket parts and it may void my warranty. His body language told me that he just wasn't interested in discussing it at all. Its not like I came in with a beater Sentra with rice stickers all over it. I was really disappointed in how he handled this discussion. I asked him if I put on a CAI and my ABS failed, would it still be covered? Again the same line, Nissan does not approve of aftermarket...blah blah blah. It was like talking to an aswering machine.

I'm going to put the idea past another dealership that I go to before I get this CAI. I already got the Trendz grill waiting to go on in the spring. Maybe that will VOID my warranty as well.

I've dealt with this very issue (here in the US, of course) on a previous vehicle. Dealership tried to deny warranty coverage of a transmission issue because I had an intake, headers, and a cat--back. I asked the service writer if he had ever heard of Magnuson-Moss, and he replied "huh?". Took him over to their internet terminal, pulled up a quick search to http://www.granatellimotorsports.com/magnusonmoss.htm and he grumbled something while pulling my vehicle back into the stall to fix it. In a nutshell, if you install an intake, and the intake CAUSES a problem like allowing too much grit into the engine, causing excessive wear, or an unacceptably lean condition leading to detonation, THOSE problems are outside the scope of the mfg warranty on the car. Even then, they have to PROVE that the aftermarket part caused the problem. It would be very hard to prove that an intake kit caused your CD changer to stop working

If you are smart, you will just settle for the intake during the warranty... if you need to take your car in for some warranty work (mechanical), put the stock intake back in... they will never know.

I would dyno my car but there isnt one in my area. Im seriously thinking of buying a safc2 and dyno tuning it. run the air/fuel a lil leaner because isnt 12 a lil rich?? I wanna get some more mods before I hit the dyno.

whats the point later? you need some sort of baseline to determine what you are paying for mod wise.... there is not one baesline dyno of the 6th gen....unbelievable!

I just talked to Phillip @ Injen on the phone. He said the reason they just list the 6sp trans is because that is the only one they haved dyno'd. He said the RD 1945 CAI should fit on a car with auto trans just fine. Which is a good thing because I had already ordered one for my car (5sp auto). They plan to eventually dyno an automatic, but probably not right away. Performance gains should be identical.
