What exactly is the VB Mod??

I know I know, look at the FAQ's....but is the VB mod a part that i need to buy in order to install it? Is it something I remove from the tranny? Thanks!

yes, you must buy it to install. and before we go anything further...its for auto transmissions only. you remove the stock on, and put on an aftermarket one. it is a part of the transmission that controls the line pressure. the line pressure decides how firm the shift it. an aftermarket VB increases the line pressure of the shift, depending on the RPM of the engine. this means if you floor it, the shift will be firm, or if you just drive around town...nice soft shift. it can give a much quicker acceleration because there is less transmission hesistation. Have you ever floored it, and the transmission takes a second to decide which gear to go into...then catches. this means that the engine is revving, but the transmission isnt catching. this means the clutch bands in the transmission are kinda frying. a VB mod can actually extend the life of the transmission, increase performance, and just give the car more all around drivability.

thanks for the details and quick response. but where can i buy the mod? you said it's aftermarket, so where can i find this? I knew it was for automatics (auto here) and it seemed like every maxima owner with an auto has this mod. i've seen pictures on this site on a how-to and the guy who did it removed the whole tranny...can i install it w/o removing the tranny? I just wanna get this mod done because this would be my first mod.

well your transmission has one NOW, but a performance one is aftermarket yes. Its on the bottom of the tranny, and can be taken out/replaced/installed without much labor, or removal of the transmission.

here is the product itself (note at the bottom, some people have dropped .4-.6 seconds in their quarter mile time...this mod can make a HUGE difference)

here is how to install (just to show you how simple it is)

wow!! $450!! seems like everyone on this site has a trust fund or rich mommie's and daddy's. for me, that's a little bit too expensive...i might just stick with a CAI and y-pipe....good enough for me. thanks for giving me the heads up though...

or they save their money up for it from being old and working a full time job

save the money and get it, well worth it imo. And as far as I know, mobiltek no longer makes the vb mod for our car, Jeff @ maximumtuning.net is the only person (I think) that makes these now, and he just came out with a new one, much better than the old (not that the old wasn't worth it). And as far as times go.. I don't think it knocks .4-.6 off your 1/4.. any differences are probably negligable (sp?), but it makes the car overall more fun to drive and helps the tranny.

or maybe we have jobs

the VB mod makes a huge difference for that ammount, and a CAI doesnt do much besides make noise before you make the decision, learn more about your car, and the products out there and available. a rear sway bar is a good cheap-ish thing to add to the suspension, and it makes a huge difference (especially if you have stock struts and springs)

well, here in maine, we got the #1 state that is unemployed. I work as a line cook and only make $8.50/hour....in Massachusetts, the same work I do pays like $13. go figure....if anyone here is from Maine, they know what I'm talking about. Rent isn't cheap either, about $475/month for just a 1 bedroom.
