Does a 92-94 SOHC CAI fit on a 89 SOHC??
I saw this CAI for sale on Ebay. but it was for 92-94s so i was wondering if it really made a difference i dont think so but w/e
Is there anybody from miami, florida in here

be careful...I was looking on ebay after reading this post and there is a CAI on there that says its for a 92-94 maxima SOHC but I think its wrong.
If you look at the intake you can tell its for a VE 92-94 maxima DOHC and not SOHC.
The VG intake will have a long S type pipe instead of the short pipes like the VE.

if u look at the picture of the CAI it looks like it would fit the VG simple because its in 2 different pieces. and the Mass Air Flow censor goes in betwwen them. so, i believe itll work but then again it does look like it would fit a VE.
As for the quality i think its pretty good because one of my friends has one on his probe. the same type of CAI that is. the only thing is that the filter it self is pretty cheap.

listen, if it is designed for the VG, it is not going to work. You need a pipe that is about 2 feet long and shaped like a flat 's' curve. The location of the MAF is not the issue, the issue is that there is no way in hell the pipe you have will reach from the intake manifold to the fender well.
<--- has both a VG and VE, and a Place Racing CAI for the VE.

thanks for the back up. I was just going to reply to him again and tell him to re read my post.
sinister:
Like todamax said the VG has a long S shapped pipe from the TB to the MAF. The VE has a very short one (pictured in the ebay ones)
Ok lets compare pics here:
this is the ebay auction pic...it is for a VE period and is mis-labeled with SOHC:

this is a WSP VG CAI:

notice the HUGE difference? I hope you are not the one that bid on that ebay auction because it will not fit your car...I dont think it would be hard to sell though.
if you want a cheap CAI for your VG then look into an accord or something like that. Chrischeezer has one and maybe one or 2 others.
it is for a sohc because it has one hole for the vacuum hose and the dohc has 2 holes....thats how u can tell and yes it does fit i have it installed right now....the quality is great.......tremendous hp gains...well worth it.....cheepest cold air you will ever find that is practically the same...oh yeah one more thing............if u use it on the vg, you have to reverse the order........use the long one first, then the sensor, then the short pipe with extended hoses..

show me the picture of the CAI you got for the SOHC off of ebay. I think we may be talking about a different one or something because the pic I posted above your reply (first pic) WILL NOT WORK ON A SOHC motor correctly. It may work somehow but not correctly (actually exit the engine bay to be a CAI). You even say it has one hole for a vacuum hose but it is clear that the pic I posted has 2 (another reason I think we may be talking about 2 different intakes).
I just want to be clear and make sure he or someone else doesnt get the wrong one. I am sure they make SOHC CAI kits that they sell on ebay (reason I want you to post a pic or ebay link) but the picture of the one I posted is for a DOHC.
Now the picture may not be of the actual intake so that can also cause confusion...if thats the case the seller needs to put up the right picture.
again I say look at my 2 pictures and notice the huge difference.
also working and working correctly are 2 different things. A CAI is not a CAI if it doesnt exit the engine bay to get COLD AIR (the CA part of the CAI).
I am not jumping on you or anything but I dont know how you can look at the 2 pictures I have and say that the top one will work (correctly as a CAI) in the VG when it is so different than the CORRECT VG CAI in the second pic.
Now if you have it working correctly and its the intake that is pictured in my first pic I will gladly eat my words and say I am completely wrong but I have to see a picture of it installed on your car...I just think we are talking about 2 different CAIs though. i did do a search on ebay and the pic I posted is the only one I could find though.
Bump to the top because I am waiting to see the pics of your CAI installed 3rdgene.
Or at least links to the intake you got off of ebay.
I am still curious how the intake I posted from ebay will fit and look on a VG.

Mike, if they haven't gotten your point by now, I doubt they will anytime soon. Or until they actually buy the wrong CAI and try to install it.
From my point of view (which is still a n00b), if they can't openly accept what a veteran (you) on this board says, then what is the point of even trying?

I am really wanting to see if the actual product is just like the picture because if it is I wouldnt mind having one for my VE.
Oh and I emailed the seller of the pictured product above and asked him a couple of questions. I asked:
1. does the product you are selling look exactly like the one listed?
2. is it for a sohc or dohc? because it looks like one for a DOHC motor
3. what is the diameter of the pipe?
4. you state its chrome but is it actually polished aluminum?
I got a reply yesterday and all it said was this:
"Sorry, man, this is for SOHC.
Regards
liveonspeed"
so this didnt help at all LOL.
Now if he would have said it doesnt look like the picture and its for a SOHC. Then that would have helped.
Of course he has a negative feedback that just says IDIOT so maybe that explains it.
I guess I am just going to have to buy one based on the picture and see what comes in.

I think someone copied John's no-hole CAI, modified it a little and is trying to make money off it.

I thought about that but it still doesnt fly
Here are some more pics:
Matt I hope you dont mind me using your pic:
Here is the WSP CAI for the VE:

here is the one I posted earlier again:

See what I mean now. It is exactly the same EXCEPT there is a little different turn down on one end (I cant tell but the WSP CAI may have that turn down too). If you ask me it looks like the company that was going to make them for custom maxima started making them and selling them on their own or something. Kevin Cleffi worked with custom maxima to get one made and it was aluminum and I swear looked just like that (the turn down at the end)

Now why would you say something like that?!?!? Just because someone fell on hard times and is trying to get his tish straight, you bad-mouth him? There are a couple who have been waiting longer than you probably. If you bought something from John I am sure he hasn't forgotten about you, but he definately won't after your post.
Well guys I got tired of waiting for 3rdgene to post pics of his VG (SOHC) CAI he got off of eBay so I took a chance and bought the CAI going by the pics of the guys auction and not his discription.
Guess what I was right (as I always tell my wife---as usual) I got the intake in just a little bit ago and opened it up. Not only is it a CAI for a VE (DOHC) but its also 3" piping which is a good thing (some auctions similar to this one says its 2.5" piping).
I hope nobody got ripped off and got this for a SOHC because it will not work as a CAI for a SOHC...it may work but not as a CAI.
If someone with a VE wants a CAI then you can get this one for less than $60 shipped. It would be cheaper but the guy is expensive on shipping. Thats still half of what it costs for any other CAI for the VE.
I will install it this weekend and get pics.
I am going to open a new thread and name it cheap VE cai so others that are not interested in this thread can see.
Here is the pic of the intake on my tool box:
