I use the armrest to REST MY ARM, it's nice and soft. Why would you want a hard, CF armrest?

I dont usally say anything about a post like this but , do you go to the movies ? Well i think thats dumb and a waste of money. "Look at ya sitting in a seat for hours just looking at light dance on a screen". My point is ,what would say if someone said that when you came out of the theater?

That's funny, cause I work in the film industry... Movies are meant for an escape and release from reality for 2 hours. It has nothing to do with this CF armrest. I said the product was dumb because it makes a comfortable armrest become uncomfortable. Why would you bother replacing soft leather with a hard plastic feeling surface? It's pointless. Your comparison to attending a movie is also pointless seeing as their is no similarity whatsoever...

Carbon fiber wheels have been made before. Not sure if it was for production however. I really wonder how strong carbon fiber is though? I do remember a 35mph into wall test on a McLaren F1 shell, where nothing broke.

Some carbon fibers have a unidirectional tensile strength of upwards of 600 ksi, twice as much as the strongest steel. But most fiber composites are used in a 60 to 70% fiber volume mix with epoxy, lowering the achievable strength of a unidirectional composite to the low 400's. But that is with the fibers all in one direction. A weave type layup like what you see in most automotive applications results in strengths that are considerable less, maybe around 100 ksi or less. It really depends on how you orient the fibers against expected load paths. Density of most graphite composites is around .06 lb/in^3, about 20% the density of steel and 60% the density of aluminum.

But this is purely academic, since a glove box lid really has no strength requirements.

I just want to know what your damn problem is? I posted that I like my armrest soft, after that SLAMMED acknowledged my post and said he wants to CF his whole car and messages like mine didn't bother him. Then out of nowhere you jump out and open your mouth. Read the ****ing thread before saying anything jacko.

the stock one doesnt have any cushion anyways... its a piece of vinyl with a paper thin piece of foam....

Actually they do have carbon fiber racing seats both for cars and motorcycles. You should probably keep your opinions to yourself if they aren't constructive.

well there are lots of opinions here...some more eccentric than others but I am sure many of the same "bad idea " comments were made when the Maxima first got a body kit or supercharger.

Props to TET for continuing to appeal to a "lighter" side of modding the Maxima.
