I just got a Frankencar hybrid, and I'm lookin at the Budget Y for the next mod. Just want to know if using exhaust wrap is supposed to get rid of the "bees in a can" sound that i've read about.

 

Yes, or you can get a warpspeed.

 

Warpspeeds also can have bees in can. My budget doesn't have it. It's just luck. You hear about it more with budget because more people are buying budget than any other brand. It's cheaper and made of higher quality material than warpspeed, so more people buy it.

 

Ok, I have a SS warpspeed with no bees, but I wrapped mine. I even wrapped my race pipe because I had some left over.

 

Where'd you get this wrap? What is it called at the store?

Go to the store and ask for Exhaust wrap or Header wrap.

I got mine online but I forgot the site, I'm pretty sure it's all the same. Get like 1000F + temp rating. I had to look online because there's not a pep boys or autozone around here. If you have those kind of stores by you just go there.

 

I bought my headerwrap for around $28 dollars total on Ebay. It was a 50ft x 2" roll. It quieted down the bees in the can sound on my Warpspeeed ss pipe.

 

Ebay has the cheapest wrap I could find. To all who plan on wrapping their pipes, don't wrap the whole thing. Just wrap the flex section and don't waste your time with wrapping the whole pipe.

 

I think that some people have had some success with just wrapping the flex section. I was not one of those individuals. I still had most of the bees in the can/ criquetts type noise after wrapping only the flex section. Once I wrapped the whole pipe, the difference was night and day. I could actually drive the car with the windows down without being annoyed.

 

I don't see how wrapping anything but the flex section could eliminate the bees sound. 1st time I wrapped it I didn't overlap the wrap so that it had a part of the pipe, still had buzzing. Second time I overlapped the pipeand I double wrapped the flex. Noise gone and much less work that doing the whole thing. Sorry it didn't work for you.

 

I wrapped only the flex section, but there's still some minor annoying noises. once the car is fully warmed up it decreases. but yes it still exist just wrapping the flex section.

 

I know that the y-pipe and cat get wrapped sometimes but do people also wrap up there cat-backs to? and if so then wat kinda difference does that makes

 

How much wrap is needed for the whole thing? Is the 50ft x 2" enough?

 

I also double wrapped the flex section after I was less than pleased with the results of the first wrap, but I still had the noises. Not to the same level as before, but still very annoying. Wrapping the whole pipe did the trick.

The aftermarket y-pipe's do not have any insualtion. The OEM one does. The tubing is thin enough to hear the exhaust noises, this is the reason some people's y-pipes had better noise reduction when the whole pipe was wrapped, as opposed to just the flex section. The newer WSP y-pipes like mine have a better flex section that aleviates the noises somewhat that originated from the flex on their previous y-pipes, but this does not fix the other noises that come from the front part of the y-pipe. This is were the wrap came in very handy for me .

liqidvenom - I only wrapped the y-pipe. From just below the front O2 sensors all the way back to where it meets the catalytic converter. Some people might wrap everything to get faster exhaust outflow. I did mine for noise reduction.

thisasian - The 50ft x 2" roll will be more than enough to cover the whole pipe.
