I paid a hair more than that, although it was a first time purchase for me and I didn't 'haggle' correctly.... plus the sales guy knew my current car was a complete POS ready to fall apart at any time. That didn't give me much wiggle room either. Oh well.

Well, I paid $23,500 for my 2004 SE that was basically bottom of the line. But, I am very happy with it.

that's like $3000 discount, isn't it? since base SE's msrp is like $26500.
if your $23500 include "tax and tag" that's almost $4000 discount.
you should be very happy, i think...

Well, I just (1/31) bought an '04 SL. I paid invoice which was right around $29,000.

Options: sun roof, mats, splash guards, and driver's preferred.

Dealer adds: tint, glass etching, pinstripes.

I just bought a 6th gen this weekend, and thankfully, the detractors are full of crap.

OOPS posted to wrong thread.

I think that is about right, I paid a tad more than that back in April, but they were a little harder to haggle with when they first came out.

The true measure of how well you did is the cost of the car and the value of your trade. I could have saved $300 on the car at another dealer, but they also wanted to give me $1000 less on the trade.

I've always paid a little too much for my cars. I guess I could have chisled them down a few more hundred each time.

The upside of that is when it comes to service. When the dealership knows you were fair when you bought it, you tend to get better treatment. Sometimes it's getting loaner cars, or being able to get your car in the shop the same day for service.

Of course this only applies to the dealership you bought it at. Hell the place I bought mine at will order parts in without even looking at the car since I live so far away. I tell them I need a new headlight assembly and they order it in. I need a new sunglass holder because mine doens't work perfectly all the time, they order it in. When I'm there they have a loaner ready and waiting for me, contrary to their usual policy. Its a nice touch. I'd gladly pay an extra $300 to be treated better by the dealership for the next four years I'll have the car.

CM.
