Heat wrapping a ypipe

I just got my budget ypipe in today and I want to get it installed on to my car as soon as I can. I just wanted to know if it is worth heat wrapping the ypipe. I really want to try to keep the noise level down as much as I can, so I figured I would try to heat wrap the ypipe, but will that cause any heat issues with the ypipe?
1. Will it effect performance in anyway?
2. Does autozone or pep boys have heat wrap?
3. How much heat wrap should I use and how will I keep the wrap from falling off the ypipe?

Keeps the infamous "bees in a can" sounds dampened. No performance decrease. Most auto stores have the heat wrap and to hold the wrap on I'd use wire (16 gauge or lower).

Also, as far as performance, it helps to keep the exhaust heat from radiating, which is a good thing because it makes your exhaust system more efficient and keeps engine bay temps down a little, too.

I thought I read somewhere that heat wrap might make the ypipe run hotter. Well I agree I might as well go pick up some heat wrap. How much do you think I will need and how much do you think it will cost? Is there a specific kind of heat wrap I should get? Thank you for the replies

yea heat wrap is very good, it increases the heat temperature in the pipe, and the wrap protects from all the cold air that would cool down the pipes so the air would move quicker cause cold air moves slow and hot air moves quick, when u first install it expect it to smoke for a couple of hours.

I forgot about that part, It was fun for me. As long as you dont stop at a light or somthing it's ok, when you do stop it stinks and has a huge smoke cloud. it looks really cool tho comming out of the hood by the winshield, kinda looks like a purge.

it keeps the exhaust hotter.. better flow cause hotter = less dense..the flex section is where people who have the bees in a can sound get it from..thats the only part u have to wrap if all you want to do is avoid that.. heat wrapping preety much only helps..keeps heat in the pipe, cooler under hood temps, better exhaust flow.., someone has also said it helps with emission cause the hotter the gasses that go into the cat. the more crap it will burn off.. cause cat works best when hot.. good sounding theory.. dont think its been verified by an org. member yet though..

bad stuff, l
ooks kinda ugly..

i heard that in rainy area the water will collect on the heat wrap and casue surface oxidation faster.

go ebay and search,, exhaust wrap or header wrap.. you should find tons..

if you get heat wrap.. try paint it with high temp black paint..it shouldnt burn off. and it may look a lil better.

My Y pipe is already installed, how hard is it to wrap it while it's on the car? I wouldn't want to take it off again unless I really have to.

I just ordered the Cattman y pipe. Does anyone know if this pipe requires the heat wrapping to avoid the bees in a can sound?

I am getting my y-pipe installed at a body shop tomorrow, should I wrap my y-pipe up first before it gets installed or should I do it after it is installed?

Both Brian at Cattman and Dallas at Warpspeed told me that they HIGHLY recommend that you do not wrap your pipes because it will cut their life in half, due to higher temps than the metal should be exposed to. Or something like that. Cattman said it voids all his warrenties, I think.
