My Maxima broke my hand!

So I was working on my car last night, and my hood shocks are shot so I use a ice scraper to hold it up, it usually works real good. But I have my hand on the top of the grill and I'm reaching behind me and then the ice scraper shoots out and the hood lands right on my hand, broke it! This is my incentive to get new shocks, and it took me 15 min to type this! haha!

Haha, sorry to hear that man. I've been using some sketchy stuff as prop rods lately too. Your story has inspired me to do something about this before the same happens to me though.

That sucks man. Next time use at least 2 ghetto props. I'm lucky, my struts are still perfect 'knocks on wood'

Sorry about your hand.

If your struts don't work, or your worried about them, I've found that using a bungee cord to hold the hood open (only works if your in a garage of course) is pretty safe.

Broken hands suck. Hope you heal quickly. I like the vice grip method on the hood shocks. Clamp it on the piston rod part and forgetaboutit.

If you can find a prop where one end fits inside the holes on the underside of the hood, you should be safer. A broomstick works well for me.

You should explain to the maxima how it should never bite the hand that feeds it.

I had the same thing happen to me acouple of days ago. I was doing some maintenance under the hood and the hood struts i guess didn't want to hold the hood up anymore so I got clonked on the back of my head. And I changed my hoodstruts about 3 months ago. I actually sometimes wish I had the standard prop rod.

Hope you get better soon.. The Max owes you big time.

yeah next time use vice grips on the rods. Damn that sucks that you broke your hand. I hope it's not going to take long to heal, all of mine took me like month and half. You are lucky you are driving an auto.

Sorry man. How bad is the break? You got a cast and everything? I also wish we had a regular hold up bar. Would make things a lot easier. I was just contemplating removing the d@mn things to allow the hood to open all the way and about 1.5Ibs of weight saving. Is it okay for the hood to open all the way and rest on the windshield with a blanket between it?

I wouldn't let the hood rest on the window because it might mess up the hinges or crack your windshield. And everytime the wind would blow it would fly down and knock you out.

no way thats gonna happen. it will only open about 6 more inches before the it hits the window.

oh, and sorry about your hand. that really blows
get a CF hood, then it wont hurt as much

i am sure if a woman can get millions of dollars for spilling HOT coffee on her hands, you can get some $$$ from Nissan. (i'm just guessing)
If you feel that bad, you should talk to a lawyer

Oh man, thats gotta hurt. Sorry to hear that, I hope your hand comes out alright. I have a good ole Louisville Slugger to keep my hood up. I put it in front of the washer fluid/behind the headlight, it always stays in place. Get yourself one of those.

That really sucks big time but it was your fault that it happened. Damn.

He won't get anything. Stop telling him to waste money. Hood struts are one of those things that wear out and replacing them with an ice pick was his choice not Nissans.

I hope you are left handed or married, lol. They have extendable prop rods that you can buy for about $20 that have rubber stoppers at each end, and fit any car. I used to use one when I was installing stereos for a living.

Actually it was his fault. I said I felt sorry for him, the same **** keeps happening to me. During the winter it takes a few minutes for the struts to start working, you have to pump them a few times. But anyway, it was his fault, stop trying to defend him. We all do stupid stuff except his was more unfortunate than others. There's nothing we can do. Next time try that bungee cord idea, no chance of anything slipping and hurting you even more.

My max messed up my hand last night. I was cracking off the bolt on the endlink and the ratchet slipped off and my hand found the nearest piece of sharp metal. It cut to the bone on my index finger. Four stitches. That still really sucks about your hand though. I feel lost because I can't work on her for at least a couple days.

yep, good thing it wasn't your head or neck. Much worse than a hand! Seriously though, you should invest in a pair of strongarms. They have lastest for about 5 months for me without any sign of failing. They're cheap at autozone or an equivalent store!

hope the hand gets better! What bones did you break?

I broke my arm Monday night. It was not while working on the max, but I broke it all the way through one of the two bones in your forearm. It hurts like mad. Anyway, I cannot work on the max for like 6 weeks!!! That sucks!!!
