Suspension Prob

So last winter my car was making this clunking/creaking noise when I would stop hard and then rock back or especially when I would back up and stop hard...i.e. tended to be when the front suspension really unloaded. I thought that it was a blown strut since the dustboot tore on my right front strut (where the noise was coming from). It also seemed to go away when I would take the car to the coin op to spray it off...I usually hit the wheel wheels pretty good.

So I replaced by stock suspension at the beginnning of last summer and haven't had any problems since. I gave the guy a ton of stuff to replace when he did the suspension but he said that most of the existing parts were fine and to just return the new parts (argh).

So I hadn't had any probs the whole winter until a couple days ago. Now it's doing it again. Anyone have any suggestions as to what this might be and what I could do to figure out what the hell this noise is? I'm not that great with suspension parts but maybe a control arm bushing or something like that? It almost sounds spring-related with the way it creaks/clunks but since it did it with the stock suspension and now with the H&R/AGX's I don't think it is. The wierd thing is that it's not just a single clunk like I would expect if a bushing or something was bad, it's like RR-RRRR-R-RR--R as I am stopping (LOL).

I'd like to fix this myself since I'm broke as a joke, but I have a feeling it's going to have to go to the doctor. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what it is based on what you are describing, but I will say, from what I've read, that the AGX's have been known to blow in cold weather. I'm not sure if that is it or not, but it may be the mounts. Theoretically, your mechanic should have replaced the upper mounts when the springs/struts were replaced. They tend to wear pretty quickly and should be replaced. good luck on figuring it out.

Sounds like road salt/sand got into something. Check your CV boots for rips.

I'm having a similar problem. I was getting suspension creaking and slight clunking on the right side front before I got my Progress/AGX setup. I thought it was bad spring insulators but now with the new suspension and insulation, I still have the same problem. I only hear the creaking and rattling when going through "high frequency" bumps on the road. It's quiet otherwise.

I think I may have found the source but I'm not sure yet. I took out the right control arm and the front bushing just slid of the bushing pin without any problems. There was a little surface rust on the pin and bushing so I cleaned it and greased it!! It was only when I took off the left control arm I realized that maybe the bushing is not suppose to move on the pin(the bushing was locked onto the pin on the left control arm). I think the right bushing is suppose to be tight on the pin and only the rubber supposed to wring when the suspension moves. Am I right on this guys? And would it make a creaking noise even though I have grease on it now?
