The black silicone sealant is still holding the housing in place. Take a heat gun (or better yet, a hair dryer) and heat it up. The housing should slowly come out after the silicone becomes hot. It'll be a bit messy but that's okay. Be careful with a heat gun, you could melt the plastic. Hair dryers are safer as they don't get as hot. The fact that it's cold outside doesn't help things.

If you don't use the hair dryer on the sealant, and try to remove the tail by hand, you will probably brake the tail in tiny Pieces. not a good thing.

ok i installed red/clears and talk about a ***** to install. red/clears are hard.

the passenger side didnt come out as good as i expected, i couldnt get it to fully attach to the body, there is a good gap in beween (unlike the drivers side that its secured sooooo tightly, u can easily tell that it goes in more than the piece on trunk). the gap on passenger side is big enough to see thru. would that cause a problem when it rains? for some reason it didnt wanna attach to the body, i dunno why. and for the plastic glue or w/e. i just put them on the body and installed the lights then i used hair dryer from inside to melt them down (dunno if it worked).

and i also got loooooooots of the glue stuck on my hand, it wont come off !

Wait till summer. Seriously though, pull into a garage and heat it up slowly. I did mine on a sunny day when it was 85 so I could pull 'em out with my pinky.

are they home made red clears?if they are maybe you didnt attach
the lens to the housing very well if this is the case heat them up
again and just push them in a little more ,it would help to heat up
the silicone to before puting them back it's alot easyer, if you bought them
try pushing a little harder in sometimes the srews dont go al the
way in

Recently replace my left one. Purchased an OEM one and brought it into a shop and got it replace(i dont have tools). after installing it there seem to be a huge gap btw the trunk lights, its a bit inner and doesnt align straigth with the trunk.

it can be tough as hell when it's cold out, otherwise it's relatively easy.

i've removed my tails more times than i want to count, but tried removing my inners yesterday so i could tint the reverse housing. i got all the screws out but then was unable to get the light out. i guess even though 38 degrees feels warm compared to what you're used to lately, it's still not warm enough to do some car stuff outside.

Doggy, I had exactly the same thing when I installed my red/clears. I checked, there is no way I could've pushed them in more. What I did was, went to the Home Depot and bought some black foam in a roll. Cut it to exact fit with the gap between the car and the lights, then put it in with the lights. Where the gap is smaller, foam pushes in more....basically you can't even see that I have it. Because its also black like the outline of the lights. No problem with water or snow getting in. I recomend you to do the same unless you figured another way out of it.
