Trunk Torsion Bar Question

Ok, I know this is an odd question but when I pop the trunk i have to pull up the trunk.....I heard that the trunk should "POP" all the way up and open. Is there a way to make the bar tighter or what should I do? I know it's not a big deal but i would like to get it to pop all the way open.

ours only open a bit (like an inch or two), then you have you pull it the rest of the way open.

if you want it to fly up get some SE torsion bars and put on your GXE. The bars are stronger or something on the SE models to account for the spoiler. I put a GXE trunk on my car with my lighter Stillen spoiler and my trunk flys up.

Hey,

When I painted my car I took off the spoiler because it was shot. I shaved over the holes. Anyways, mine really flies up too. Is their anyway to slow it down? Should I go with the stillen spoiler?

Thanx

if it wasn't designed to fly up then why do it. but to each of their own, i personally don't like the idea getting smacked in the chin when that thing flies up.

well i pop it either from the inside of the car or from the keyless entry. i dont use the key for the trunk ( key hole eats keys) Some ppls car it opens all the way so i was wondering how to make it do that.....and right to each of their own. Just something else to fiddle with while waiting for money to buy something big

You might wanna pick one up off white90se. I have to be ready to jump back and slow the trunk because of the rattle it gives when opening. I stand and have one hand on the trunk release button and the other ready for action. I half expect it to crack the glass sooner or later. You don't want the hassle. Besides, Im in FL you're in OH. That would be a beotch having no trunk for a week.

Also, I might try the stillen spoiler before I give up...

Good luck,

Matt F.

re-read my post...

here it is "I put a GXE trunk on my car with my lighter Stillen spoiler and my trunk flys up."

The Stillen spoiler is really light and the trunk still flys up too fast. The stillen spoiler doesnt help at all.

Just wanted to clear it up so you dont get something and it not work for you.

Thanx...

I see what you're sayin' I have an SE though, does that make a difference? I also thought it was the GXE that didn't fly up? I'm just goin for clarification w/this one. Also, is their an adjustment on the bar?

OK I see where the confusion may have come. I didnt state that I have an SE. I wasnt 100% clear on that.

Here is the deal...I have a 93SE...I took my factory trunk off with the heavy spoiler...I put a GXE trunk on with the Stillen spoiler...The trunk flys up really fast.

The torsion bars on an SE are stronger or bigger or something because it needs to be in order to pick up the heavy SE trunk with spoiler so if you put a GXE trunk (or SE trunk without spoiler or lighter spoiler) it will fly up.

I took the torsion bars out of my car (because I am using something else) if anyone wants them you can have them for shipping cost. It would be easier to get them from a junk yard though IMO. I dont know what shipping would be but they are a little long so you will pay way too much for your trunk to fly up.

Look at the other cars (the ones you say come up) and see what they use to open the trunk. Maybe they use struts or something else. That will be your solution.

add weight to your trunk lid a little at a time to get the popup rate you want.

i believe there is a pin on each side...holding the torsion bars to the rear of the car...and then there is a few bolts holding it to the trunk...but im not really sure..just open your trunk and take a look inside

will

if the lid flies up too fast, just do what I did... buy a roll of dynamat and lay down several layers on it. Add about 10lb to the trunk lid and it won't do that anymore.

mine is so heavy now that when I'm parked uphill in my driveway, the lid won't even stay open. I need to replace the spoiler though.. when I do that, I'll get a stillen type II or something and the problem will be solved.
