Anyone had any overheating problems? My car always runs and the middle of the temp gauge. I was driving it the other day, and the temp gauge shot all the way up, but then instantly came back down. I also noticed, that when stopped, the heat doesnt come out hot at all, but when driving, it's fine. Im leaning towards a thermostat. Has anyone else had a similar problem? What was the cause?

 

thermostat wouldn't cause for the heat to shoot up and have no head coming out of the vents. Prolly low coolant and leak. Thermostat would either cause the temperature to shoot up, or keep it really low all the time.

 

My 96 Se has the temp needle right in the middle...I think that is normal...Regarding the time that your needle went up ,I d say that the thermostat is the problem .However,as you saw it,when the thermostat open, the temp went down...If you were on idle for too long, that may also be the situation. Unless the needle goes up often, or stays up there , I wouldn t worry too much . That is my $.02

 

If the gauge spiked and immediately came back down, its probably just the gauge because theres no way the temperture rose that high and came back down so fast even if the thermostat were getting stuck. And if the needle is usually in the middle, its safe, but high for a maxima. Almost all nissans run at about 190 or a little less than half. Half is prob. about 200-210
