Re-paint questions regarding the hood...etc...

I was in an accident (someone rear ended my max) a couple of weeks ago, and I am just now about to get around to fixing it. I am going to have the rear bumper fixed, and going to have the front bumper repainted while he is at it. (that way, everything will look good.).

What I was wondering is if you think I should have the hood repainted as well. I have quite a few rock chips that go pretty deep, and I could probably get a good deal on it as well while he is at it.
1. How huge of a job is it to repaint the hood right (taking everything off and paiting it),
2. and what would be a good deal on that and the bumpers...I know the guy and he will do a deal for me, but I just have no idea of even a ballpark figure.
3. Finally, do you think I should go ahead and repaint the hood too after hearing what I told you about rock chips? There used to be touch up paint, but it is wearing off, and it is just as well, because it looked awful. It was that way when I bought it last year.

Please let me know your comments. Positive or Negative....please post...

Are you replacing the rear bumper cover? What about the stuff under the cover...does that need to be replaced? A new cover and paint will probably be about 3-400 at a good body shop.

As far as painting the hood...probably 4-500. I would do it, but make sure you go somewhere GOOD or you're probably better off leaving it how it is. Be careful of the guys who will "give you a deal" on body work. TONS of horror stories. Frankly, I'd almost rather go to strangers so there are no complications with busting their ***** if they screw up. Lots can go wrong painting a hood if you get some jerkoff hacks doing it...be careful where you bring it.

Oh and if you'er painting the front bumper and hood, make sure they blend the fenders. You probably want blending in the rear too...

I'm having my rear bumper done very soon and will def be getting blending on the rear fenders. I had my front bumper done and it DIDN'T get blended which was a mistake....you can tell. It's not so bad...even my picky *** can live with it for awhile, but if I had it to do over again blending would be an absolute must.

What do they do when they blend it. And my other concern, is that the bumpers are a pretty common thing to have repainted. The hood is not something I am sure I want to juimp into. The car is 5 years old now, and I am wondering how the paint will look on the "new" part vs. the "old" part. Red is kind of tricky.

I know this guy, and he does good work, from everything I have seen. he is doing both bumpers (sanded and painted) for $350 cash. That is awesome. I also just put a new muffler on there (from 5th gen) and he is going to cut out a larger hole in the bumper for it to fit in there.

The concerns you have is what blending is for. New paint will obviously be darker so you blend it so that it kind of fades into the older paint...so there's not a sharp contrast.

Don't buff new paint!!! You must wait 40 days or your risk damaging the new paint!

I just detailed my car this weekend and found my brand new paintjob on my hood scratched...probably from ice. I'm definitely having second thoughts about the quality of bodyshop paint jobs.

its always better to just repaint the whole car when replacing a few peices or repairing....

Also---- if you cant afford that, idk what blending is, but just tell whoever is painting to use a cheaper clear coat!!!!!!

It will Be A PERFECT match!!!

I don't want to repaint the whole car...to do that right, you have to take all the hardware off and make it look good. Otherwise, it will never look as good as it was. It will look sloppy.
