A question about the heater.....and my car just died!.......

.......mine's stopped working properly. Fan positions 1 thru 3 don't do anything anymore, but 4 works fine. Has this happened to anyone else? I can't live with just full blast heat! Help! Thanks.

P.S. My car just broke down. I think my alternator belt went. I was sitting at a red light waiting to make a right hand turn. When the light went green, I stepped on the gas and heard a snapping sound. I felt my Max run over something and my brake and battery lights came on. I pulled over to see what happened and more of my idiot lights came on. So my headlights started to dim and the car started to hesitate. It died about a minute later. If I hook up a booster pack to my battery, the car will start and run fine, but when I take it off, the car will die within a minute. Does this sound like the alternator belt? Where is the alternator located? It was pretty dark where the car broke down, so I could'nt see anything under the hood. I appericate any help anyone can give me. Thanks in advance.

If you have manual climate control, there is a blower motor resistor, I think that is basically the name that dies and you loose the lower fan speeds. High speed is on a different circuit, because voltage doesn't have to be altered to give high speed.

Theres a resistor that needs to be replaced. the "4" works because there is no resistor on that setting. Theres a topic on it in the FAQ.
