no point in getting a 5th gen exhaust, no gains, looks stock, and sounds stock. its a waste of money if you ask me.

i ask Dave B who has it and he said there is increase in hp but minimal...any aftermarket muffler is going to be minimal as well but alot louder which i don't want...below is what he wrote on his site:

"The 2000+ muffler incorporates a variable capacity design which uses a valve to regulate exhaust velocity. The muffler is throatier sounding than the stock 96 muffler, gives actual gains, and looks nice too."

Unless you have an aftermarket y-pipe and b-pipe don't bother with it. Most people try to get the 5th gen muffler to quiet things down. You already have a 4th gen muffler so why bother?

I am interested in the 5th gen muffler also. I mean, I would like to stay away from the ricey sound as much as possible, and there just doesn't seem to be too many quiet setups out there. By the way, how much additional hp do you think you would get from having a y-pipe, intake, and catback altogether?

I can agree to that. I read an article once on the 5th Gen's that mentioned their mufflers, and said something about it being based off the Skyline's exhaust. Now tell me...would Nissan put anything pointless on a performance vehicle? Same idea here, it's functional...the gains aren't big, but gains are gains...don't just dismiss them.

If people want one, let them. Maybe some like things a little quieter. Either way, like Dave says, there's many cons...and no pros.

If you were to buy a 5th gen muffler you would have to weld it on. Would you also have to cut out a peice of your rear bumper in order to make the muffler fit?

To be brutally honest, if you are looking to a muffler for horsepower gains, you are looking in the WRONG place. This is to no one in particular, but give me a break. Looks, sound, that's about it. Mufflers don't yield any real horsepower, unless a few factors like FI, oem is extremely restrictive, you are at your last leg on squeezing horsepower NA and that's all that's left to do. The 5th gen muffler is a great alternative IMO. If you don't want a loud performance muffler, but want to know that the muffler is not robbing you of any power, it's great. Everybody's taste is different. I'm just glad we have this alternative given to us.

if your going to upgrade your muffler, in my opinion, the 5th gen muffler is the best choice. You may gain a little hp but dont expect much because you wont from any muffler. but thats not why you buy a muffler, you buy it to get a better look and a little bit better tone which is what this muffler will give you. i think its the best choice for a muffler but not the best choice for performance upgrade.
