Is better gas mileage an excuse to buy a y-pipe
I am a 95 se 5spd completely stock and i dont really want to create a monster of a maxima. I do however want a y-pipe and only a y-pipe. My question is... Can i legitametely tell myself that i will be saving money on gas with this modification? This is the the only way i can justify buying a y-pipe so please be honest with me
I don't have mine yet, but this is what I heard:
Theoretically, it will improve the mileage...but once you have it you'll like driving it harder and so you'll more than make up for the improved efficiency. haha.
Honestly though I haven't heard anyone quote much better fuel economy. :-/

Actually after the testing/enjoyment of your y-pipe, your driving will return to your normal habits. Then your mileage will improve. I have just the budget Y-pipe without any other mods. I just love the **** out of my 99 max now. It does run much cooler now that the cats have been removed. Smoking an uneducated driver now and then won't make your mileage go to hell. Only if you do that constantly.
i have a 96 max and i installed y-pipe, cat, and frankencar intake. right after the install i drove about 210 miles to houston and got 33 mpg!! i was shocked, but know i am in houston and stop and go traffic sucks, and i am going wot at every chance i get cuz it sounds and feels so sweet, but yeah i got a good 4mpg high way boost. this is also on a car with 105,xxx miles
