I've read a couple of threads about how to remove the PCV valve. I tried removing mine today and its a big pain. I ended up splitting one end of the rubber hose that plugs ontop of the valve because I tried to push it up and off of the valve with a flat head screw driver. Then I tried to pry up the PCV valve off of its hole on the valve cover and it wasn't coming off. I ended up leaving it on there for now and would like to get some assistance from all of you. What's the quickest, easiest way to remove the darn PCV valve?

I took the hose off mine, pried it up with a screwdriver a bit, put a little rag over the top and yanked like a mother with some needle nose pliers. Hope this helps.

 

I used a long-nosed vice grip plier and a screw driver to pry the valve off. Very easy.

 

^Just like they did. i did it 2day, the hose got a little roughed up but nothing too bad.....

 

The initial problem I ran into is that I couldn't pull the hose off. It's very difficult and the hose won't budge because of the way its situated. The hose isn't very long (no slack) and is thick. The tension on it makes it very difficult to slide up because there's no slack that would give it a bend as you pull the hose off. I tried prying it off of the valve with a screw driver and I ended up ruining the tip of the rubber hose. Would spraying WD40 help? So I tried prying the valve off but it only came up so much because the hose is preventing it from popping all the way up. I'll probably end up cutting the old hose in the middle and replace it with a new one just so that I can pull the PCV valve out.

 

you can also remove two bolts that secure metal bracket welded to that pipe, remove upper and lower hoses, PCV comes out easily. sorry no pic but its very easy that way. i think thats how they put it in there from the factory.

 

What metal bracket? Are you talking about the metal nipple that the other end of the rubber hose attaches to, isn't that like bolted onto the rear valve cover? And wouldn't you have to take off other components to get to it?

 

yes, i got to it without removing anything else, you just need an extension & socket set. I found it to be the easy way, try it if you want.

 

How often should you replace them? I replaced mine at 80k and I figure it should be fine for the rest of the car's life?
