Loss of electrical power, Alternator?

When I start my car at night, and turn on the headlights, I notice that the headlights dim a little bit. They also dim when I step on the brake. What's the deal? Could it be my alternator? Or would a grounding kit solve the problem? I sanded most of my grounding points already, to give them better contact; maybe that wasn't enough. Any ideas? Thanks.

if ti dependant on your engines RPM, then its your alternator. thicker ground wires wouldn't hurt, but the alt could be dying.

When I rev the motor, sometimes the lights get brighter but get dimmer again, and other times it doesn't do anything. Sound like the alternator?
