So strange it happened today.

When i accelerate hard in 1st gear, there is all this clunking noise coming from the front end. Sounds like suspension. I jsut finished installing a replacement APEX-i filter and the car just came back from its 1st service for the 36,000KM service.

I don't understand what it is, but it does not sound good. Under normal acceleration, no sound, but under harder (3/4 to full) in first, there is major clunking.

I have H&R's on w/ stock shocks since the car was new.

So any ideas?

Motor mounts?

 

Sounds like the Diff that blows out on the new TSX, RSX and TLs. When U accelerate it makes this knocking noise under wide open throttle. It sounds like someone knocking on the trans case. Dont ask me how I know... look in the background of my sig pic

I'm looking into the same thing,

could also be a suspension part like control arms. Let you know if you find out anything as I really dont want to take mine to the dealer. Once the weather gets a little warmer i'm going to do some looking.

 

Are we talking about the HLSD or an open differential failing?

 

I had a clunking once after I did my motor swap. It turned out to be the front engine (right) motor mount. All I had to do was re-tighten the main carrier bolt.

Mine is a 2k3 6speed w/ HLSD (never drove a max with an open diff as my old 2k2 had HLSD)..

My Max makes the clunking noise when cold, and when turning around a left corner. I know its the motor mounts on mine- car has been verrrry abused since day one.. with 80K on the odo, the mounts are shot. I'm getting some stockers and gonna do my own solid mounts with some utherane filling
