Nav Screen Plays DVDS
Nav Screen Plays DVDS
I decided to add a nice video system to my car last month.I have had boomin systems in my past three cars and decided that i would like video intead of audio in this one. So i took the car to my friends over at NAV-TV.com com and had a dvd coversion done to my nav screen. I added two 7.6 inch LCds behind the headrests ( on brackets b/c) i wasnt gonna cut up the headrests to fit a 5.5" screen in them. I mounted a dvd player under the rear passenger seat and had a fm modulator hard wired. Now when I want to watch a movie all i have to do is flip a small switch mounted inside the small comprtment under the tape deck and my nav screen switches from displaying car info to video. The great part is that your nav system still works in the background and gives prompts while driving. I will take some picks as soon as i Detail may car next week. If you guys are into car video this is definately worth teh money. About $700 to nav Tv to do the conversion with fm modulator.

For now, getting my Clifford RSX3.5 installed tomorrow and the windows tinted on Thursday so it may be a couple more weeks of lunch money to save before further mods
Sorry about the pics I will try to take some soon ..... I think that the display is great for picture the colors are adjusted on the circuit board that nav tv installed so its adjusted once and insstalled ( quality is sharp with good dvds) Some colors dont show ideally but unless you are a videophile you wont mind. It is totally indipendant of the seat back monitors because there is a switch to turn on and off so rear passagers can watch when they want. As for pin out I let them do all the work because i didnt want to F Up and have to buy a new nav screen or system. The beast thing is that the nav stays on no matter what because only the video signal is interupted. So i set the nav and put a movie on and when its time for turns the volume dims and i hear the navi girl come on. As for tuners Its depends what kind of area you are in I hear the dont work to well with teh engine running so i decided to save my money beacuse i live in NYC and since the towers came down reception sucks.

I didn't get nav because I wanted to perform this mod with a new screen. Does anyone know if I do a new screen, will I still be able to recieve information from the radio, auto climate, etc? My dumb a*s didn't realize till after my purchase that a dvd based navigation is used with a high res screen.
Nav TV did their part with the fm modulator included for about $700. As for doing this aftermarket with a new screen i would have definately gotten a nav system. I doubt that you could get the HVAC info and radio etc on an aftermarket screen from the non navi screen.

Any pics yet?
there are some pics of where the switch is mounted. I put it in the small compartment near the shifter. As for the FM modulator its on the small switch on the right so that i can turn it on and off in case i want to listen to other radio stations when the system is on. FM mods f up most reception around the dial when they are on becasue they are plugged directly to the ant. As for NAV TV i let them do the work. They are the most qualified to do it because they have more knowledge than the geek at the local bestbuy. as for the dvd player its mounted under the rear passager seat. I have had crazy sound systems done in my previous car so i was sick of cutting holes in my ridee. I decided to keep it simple. I may ad a backup camera next or PS2.
Nice ! How much did everything cost?

Pretty cool...I'm guessing you are watching the movie in a widescreen format in the above pic. Otherwise the pic look real narrow (height wise).
Looks like I'm going to have to call Nav-Tv and get some details.
Can you get some pics of where you mounted the DVD player? thx!
