how does this exactly work? can I purchase one after my warranty has run out? how and where would I get the work done if I needed warranty work done?

Well it really depends on the situation. I wouldn't blanket statement it like that. My extended warranty on my 99 covered all my coil pack repairs which was helpful. The Maxima is a damned reliable car, but things do break and I'd like some backup when they do.

On the flip side, make sure you know what you're buying and what the policy covers.
