thanx ffor the welcome. i have a friend that says a stock 3rd gen rx7 runs high 13s in the quarter. and as far as i have researched the maxima is only capable of low 14s. i really didn't want to beleive him. thanx for the replys.
It would probally be a good race if they are both stick. Most Rx-7's are in ****y condition now and have been beaten on. The only reason the RX-7 runs those times because mazda tried to max that car so light, I believe it weights like 2800 lbs.
For all the people doubting the RX7 my car is nearly stock and ran a 13.4 at 5400 ft altitude. This translate to a high 12 at sea-level. If you bring me a maxima with anything short of turbo or nitrous I don't think is has a chance in a straight line, and I don't think a maxima would ever have a chance in the twisties.

The Maxima would get waxed in acceleration stock for stock. Once the RX7 starts modding it just gets uglier. There's a reason why 3 rotor FD's run into 10's with 500whp look at the weight. Don't let the 255HP/220TQ rating fool you.

Rx-7 certainly has legendary handling. It should edge a 2004 maxima 6 speed out in the 1/4 mile too. It should diff be close though, and there is a good change the mazda isnt running like new a maxima could win. a 14@100 versus a 14.3@99 could be a very close depending on the launch . If rx-7 is modded forget about it ;-)
RX-7 turbos do have generous torque for its weight. And what it lacks in flywheel torque will make up for steep rear end gearing. Furthermore there are very few road race savvy cars that ALSO hook up well at the dragstrip on stockish radials. Z06 (1.783 to 1.86 60 foots seen for OEM tires) and RX-7 FDs (seen 1.95 out of stock tires) come into mind.
I saw 13.5 @ just above 100 mph for a bone stock RX-7 in a cool day. Its lightweight, torque from the quick-spooling turbocharging, and steep rear gear helps RX-7s post closer to optimal times with a bit of bog than most other cars that bog off the line.
This is all assuming a healthy example.

I have a friend who ran 13.5 @ 105+ on a stock RX7. As mentioned before, most of them now are in bad shape and have a dozen vacumm leaks which make them run like crap.
Other than that, all I know is that I can trap 106mph NA all day long in my 2002 6 speed and I can't outrun this guy on the street with his stock '93 RX7.

. Its mainly b/c the weight and the fact that the RX-7 is legendary. You could take an RX-8 though the specs suck on it and it is N/A.
