Coilovers what is the difference??

Ok well it's time to be a newbie here, and I can't search so once again I am sorry.

What is the difference between spring/strut combo like s-tech/illuminas and coilover and shocks like ground control/kyb agx ??? Or is there one. Which is better??

I was looking at what a33 has for sale and was thinking about the ground control coilovers with kyb agx shocks along with his 18x7.5 Konig Verdicts in gunmetal. What drop would this be and how would the ride be??(adjustable??) Also what tires would you put on them. Once again sorry for the ridiculous question wouldn't do it if I could search for "coilover"

ground controls you can adjust the ride height anywhere from 0 to 3" drop. Cheaper alternative than Coilover system which runs $1000+

ground control are a poor man's version of COs. they use a normal strut with a short adjustanble spring. the springs are adjustable. the lower you put these, the harsher the ride will be.

if you spend more cash...lets say cattman, JIC, or teins you will get an all in one spring/strut with full adjustablitly many different ways besides just ride height and damper. Also, the lower you go wont really affect the stiffness like it will with GCs
Youll also KILL your struts going to low with GCs.
and many have the infamous GC clunks

I wouldn't go so far as to say that Ground Control are coilovers. They are an adjustable ride height spring. They severly limit the amount of travel that your suspension has and will blow your shocks in due time. They will also void the warranty on any aftermarket shock. Go with a traditional sport spring and quality shock combo. Unless you are willing to pay the money for a ture coilover setup which will run you over $1000.

Most guys on here will tell you that the Ground Controls produce the worst ride and will kill any strut. Look here towards the bottom: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=281194&page=2
