has anyone purchased obx catback of ebay yet?

Yesterday I made a payment for the $150 obx cat back exhaust, Im supposed to receive it next tuesday. I was wondering if anyone else purchased one of ebay, and if you have, did you install it? How does it look and sound?

Thanks.

It's definitely not 2.25" piping...I recieved mine today...the diameter of the piping is equivalent to that of my y-pipe (all of this is sitting in my basement til May), which is 2.5". It looks BEAUTIFUL, the faster you pay the faster they ship, mine took only 4 business days from payment....can't wait to get this installed

DOES THE MUFFLER PART LOOK JUST LIKE THE GREDDY OR CLOSELY SIMILAR TO IT? AND DOES IT HAVE OBX ENGRAVED ON THE MUFFLER ANYWHERE?
THANKS.

The muffler has a metal patch tacked on with OBX Racing engraved on it. It looks good, not cheap. The only problem I had was the silencer not coming out. There were 3 of us pulling on it and it wouldnt budge. I went out and bought a Power 1 muffler and had it installed 2 hours after the OBX went on. Couldnt stand the sound of the silencer. The piping is 2.5" in diameter.

I think we are talking about 2 different cat backs. The $150 one is 2 1/4 inch and there is no OBX tag or silencer in it.

The OBX one was about $270 from the GD or a few on Ebay.

The $150 one off of E-Bay is definately 2.25". I don't see any point in getting this. It won't do anything performance wise.

I bought the exact system from that seller. Mine came with a silencer and had the OBX tag on the tip. It is 2.5".

WHAT IS THE REASON YOU COULDNT REMOVE THE SILENCER IS IT BECAUSE ITS WELDED IN PLACE OR IS IT JUST SITTING IN THERE REAL TIGHT?

It is in there real tight. I had 3 friends trying to pull it out at once and it still wouldnt budge. I would have a real nice deep tone if it came out. But we had no luck. The power one muffler I bought to replace it has a very deep tone, but its loud inside the cabin as well.

Well, it appears I have erred and I do stand corrected. Measuring the hole of the exhaust, it is 2.5", however the pipe inside measures only 2.25" -- An email was sent to ssautochrome.com (who lists these auctions) this morning, and here is the reply:

Hello, I Just recieved this in the mail Friday - thank you for the quick shipping -- I notice that the piping is only 2.25" in diameter, whereas in the OBX exhaust, it is 2.5" in diameter. In the auction it states that this is the OBX (or an exact replica) exhaust - plesae explain this discrepancy, 2.25" is not acceptable as it will provide me minimal performance gains with the rest of my exhaust piping being 2.5".

Thank you!

--------------

My question is this -- I'm not going to return this, since it only cost me $150, and shipping it back would be a pain in the *****, and I'm not going to wah-wah over $150 - anyway - obviously I know I'm not going to get minimal performance gains now, but will this adversely affect when I put my y-pipe on, or will I just get the same gains from the y-pipe as I'd get if I didn't put the catback on. People report minimal gains from cat-backs anyway so...yea, that's my question

Thanks in advance for the information, and again my apologies on incorrectly stating the diameter of the piping in my original post(s) in this thread.

P.S. Anyone who can find online a data sheet or otherwise for the OBX Type-H exhaust for the 5th gen Maxima that states it uses 2.5" piping, please forward over a link, I'd love to send it back to these guys. Also keep in mind I'm not bashing this company either - they don't state either way in the auction the diameter of the piping, the product looks great and was shipped fast. If this is what you want, do not hesitate to buy.

Do you think it makes that much of a difference though? Like I said, most people report very minimal gains from cat-backs anyway, so would not having the extra .25" really affect things that much? I dont know the answer myself....

Thanks - I'm hoping that it tucks under the bumper like the stock one now, and doesn't protrude....in fact I'm hoping whoever I get to install it can make damn sure of that, I don't want it sticking out one bit.

there's a key on your keyboard. it's right above the left shift key, and right below the tab key. press it.

Anyway, we both won the same auction - this is what was shipped to me.

Can you do me a favor and take another pic of the muffler par from the side.
Because in the auction the tip on the muffler looks like its closer to the bottom but this one looks like its in the middle. Maybe it just looks like it from the angles the pictures were taken. Thanks.

Does anyone have a problem with the Ebay catback banging? Mine is hitting something under the car (I think it is the rear beam).

Its better than stock because the stock bipe has a few sections where it is very narrow. The tips is tucked under the bumper but the muffler hands lower than stock.

OVerall I like it but it is loud, so not sure if I want to keep it on the car.

And don't forget that the catback in the picture may not be the one that is the application for our car, I'm sure it says that in the find print somewhere.

So did I read this post correct and say that SSAUTOCHROME shipped but the OBX tagged catback and this replica that I and a few other bought??

Hey can you snap another pic from the side of the muffler I would like to see if the muffler tip is closer to the bottom of the muffler or in the middle. All obx mufflers I have seen on the org the tip is closer to bottom, like the greddy.

Can you put a sound clip out there?

I'd like to hear what 'loud' is to you? Is it 'ricey' or is it just plain loud?

You're saying it is loud with the silencer in???

Sorry I didn't get a chance to take pics last night, kind of fell asleep, too much bracketology -- anyway, I got an email back from the seller today after I inquired about the difference between the picture and the product I recieved:

Hello

The picture on EBAY that is on auction is actually for the 95-99 Models. The similarities between the 2 are close - they are both TYPE H.
The muffler is great - all stainless and will sound and perform great for you. Also - notice the hanger locations - that would not fit the 2000 ++
It is used primarily as an example for the exhaust
Just so you can see how a Type H is, not type R, or DTM If the auction was listed as DTM, and you got TYPE H, then that is totally an error
Thanks

This is the auction I won --
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...EBWN%3AIT&rd=1
-- and THIS is what I recieved:

http://home.comcast.net/~ccxspam/catback/muffler1.jpg

Why do the two mufflers look so different? Did I get shipped the wrong one? I would like to make sure that what I got from the auction is what I
actually have -- thank you!

Sounds like they're misrepresenting their product. Unless they stated in their auction that the pic isn't accurate, then I think you have a case for argument there...

I am supposed to get mine tommorow from ssautochrome, and after seeing the pic of the exhaust received by the other org member I am ****ed already. Black005spd has a obx catback and it looks exactly like a greddy, and this obx that we are talking about looks nothing like the greddy. By the way some people say they got the one with a silencer and a obx logo on theres, this one doesn't have either one of those. I think its a knock off thats why its only $150. If mine looks like this one I will definetly complain and send back for a full refund. if any one else has a obx please post pics and where you bought it from.

Thanks.
